Job Summary
The Rivers Laboratory Assistant will assist in the operation of the Rivers Lab to advance the lab’s goals in Sickle cell research. The incumbent will perform necessary tasks including laboratory organization, inventory and record keeping. Under supervision they will work in the lab’s mouse colony assisting in general husbandry tasks and sample collection. Under direction they will perform routine assays, operate laboratory equipment and conduct literature searches.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $19.43 - $22.49 (Hourly Rate).

The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest and most complex departments in the School of Medicine. The Department is comprised of 18 divisions employing over 400 core faculty. The Department ranks 21st in the nation among pediatric departments for funding from the National Institutes of Health.

Required Qualifications
- High school graduation and two years of laboratory experience, or two years of college, including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to a high standard of accuracy and ability to follow and operate in compliance with standard operating procedures
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Willingness to work with mice
- Proficiency with general productivity software such as the Microsoft 365
- Willingness to learn specialized database and instrument software such as Softmouse and FACsDIVA.
- Prior Research Laboratory Experience
- Experience with mouse colony management and mouse handling
- Knowledge of UCSF policies and procedures
- Experience with cell staining, cell culture, flowcytometry, and microscopy
- Experience with specialty software such as: Softmouse, FACsDIVA, FlowJo, and Prism
