The Nuclear Fuel and Packaging Mechanical Analysis Engineer works within the Fuel Performance and Design Nuclear Engineering organization. The team is The Lead Nuclear Fuel and Packaging Mechanical Analysis Engineer works within the Fuel Performance and Design Nuclear Engineering organization. The team is responsible for the design, analyses and testing of the nuclear fuel bundle assembly, components, packaging, and shipping containers to ensure performance, code, and regulatory compliance.
The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified remote candidates will be considered.

Responsibilities
The Lead Nuclear Fuel and Packaging Mechanical Analysis Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering analyses. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:
The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.

Responsibilities
The Lead Nuclear Fuel and Packaging Mechanical Analysis Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality engineering analyses. Work scope typically includes the following essential responsibilities:
- Develop creative solutions and reduce analysis complexity to create accurate and effective solutions for complex engineering problems.
- Analyze BWR fuel, sodium fast reactor fuel, sodium reactor core components, and packaging designs to develop loads and response characteristics.
- Confirm fuel, core components, and packaging meet structural stress and fatigue criteria.
- Translate design information into detailed finite element models of nuclear fuel components and packaging containers using Finite Element methods and GE in-house computer codes.
- Engage customers and industry partners to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks.
- Work with the technical leader to establish an effective work plan, including time estimates, schedule estimates, requirements, and work processes.
- Apply engineering fundamentals and 1st order engineering principles to establish and/or confirm expected performance.
- Provide clear and complete analysis documentation in accordance with GE engineering procedures.
- Ability to present analysis results in a clear, organized and concise manner.
- Manage time effectively to provide quality deliverables within the expected project timeline. Communicate effectively to leadership the status of work activities
- Effectively manage multiple priorities
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or University.
- Minimum of 5 years applicable experience performing mechanical analysis.
- The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified remote candidates will be considered.
- Master’s Degree or greater in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or University
- Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience
- Strong knowledge of mechanical analysis fundamentals – stress analysis, heat transfer, non-linear systems, vibrations, fatigue, fracture mechanics, and drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, effectively facilitate meetings and provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced coworkers.
- Working knowledge of the ASME Section III and XI Codes.
- Demonstrated ability to model using ANSYS, APDL, or LS DYNA
- Working knowledge of scripting tools such as PROCD, Python, VBA, etc.
- A self-starter willing to take initiative
