Job Purpose Summary

The Manager, Accounting Operations is responsible for providing oversight within the accounting operations functions, including preparation of accounting reconciliations, and maintenance of accounting operational policies and procedures. This position plays a lead role in maintaining accounting operating systems and serves as the primary accounting department liaison with external accounting and finance partners, including the company’s operating/accounting system vendor and AAA, Inc.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Manager, Accounting Operations, in cooperation with the Controller, manages team members in the Accounting department. Managerial duties include providing daily guidance to direct reports, coaching and mentoring, development of accounting operations roles, time and attendance administration, performance appraisals, and the interviewing and hiring of new staff.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, daily membership payment submissions, and various banking transactions including credit card settlement administration, daily bank deposits, and wire transfers.
  • Provides contractor payment oversight, including weekly deduction and loan reconciliations.
  • Prepares and/or oversees preparation of various bank account and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Serves as a primary liaison to Campana, the company’s accounting operations system provider and with AAA, Inc.
  • Supports various audit initiatives, including preparation and participation in the annual financial audit.
  • Works directly with the Controller in the preparation and execution of business plans, evaluation of accounting operations processes, and provides appropriate ongoing enhancement recommendations.
  • Works in cooperation with the Controller to ensure that accounting operations align with AAACP’s and AAA, Inc’s Strategic Plans.
  • Represents the accounting department at conferences and events, workgroups, focus groups, etc.
  • Supports all club initiatives, ensuring that accounting transactional processes are properly deployed.
  • Coaches, mentors, and develops members of the accounting team, holding the team responsible for meeting job expectations, and achieving goals while also fostering growth and development.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business preferred, plus five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to regularly travel between locations for business purposes.
  • If driving, the incumbent must possess and maintain a clean driving record and meet minimum insurance standards to drive for company business. Only team members who possess an unrestricted, current driver’s license and adequate insurance coverage may operate AAA Central Penn’s vehicles or use a state registered, personal vehicle to conduct AAA Central Penn’s business.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Directs the efforts of department staff workflow, ensuring completion of department operational tasks.
  • Independently makes decisions, applying policy and procedures to solve problems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to properly manage confidential information in a careful and secure manner.
  • Ability to maintain professional and courteous relationships with coworkers, suppliers, contractors, and other associated personnel.
