ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sensory & Product Insight Manager will leverage sensory research experience, analytical skills, and innate curiosity to help the company better understand its customers and its products. We’re looking for a strong, self-motivated individual who brings technical and process leadership as well as a service-oriented mindset in everything they do. Project Management Skills
- Be the “voice of the consumer” & “voice of the product” in support of business decisions concerning the product experience.
- Has the skills and self-motivation to work autonomously and to drive projects through completion.
- Manage the overall project timelines, ensuring that milestones are met at the various stages of the project execution and ensuring adherence to SOPs.
- Responsible for leading complex qualitative and quantitative sensory and consumer product research projects; this includes consulting with key stakeholders to determine project objectives, developing test design, conducting the research as per best practice standards and delivery of recommendations to relevant R&D and business partners.
- Has a proven ability to manage external consumer research suppliers and ensure top value and performance.
- Analyze and interpret simple and moderately complex sensory and consumer data and provide stakeholders with clear and actionable recommendations.
- Proven ability to design, analyze and interpret sensory and consumer findings into implications and actionable results that refine product, brand and business strategies.
- Ability to interpret complex data and relate impact on the business.
- Deliver results orally and with written reports to inform and enable clear business decisions.
- Be the primary contact for and engage with cross-functional stakeholders to understand research needs and deliver research results.
- Take a leadership role in global CI initiatives through participation in various project teams.
- Ability to understand and work through opposing points-of-view.
- Demonstrated success in working with senior leadership teams and mentoring junior scientists by providing guidance on appropriate processes and methods.
- Adaptable leadership style with a high sense of curiosity and tenacity to ask the right questions and follow through with answers.
- Identify and implement new, forward thinking evaluation techniques and methodologies for the future of consumer evaluation. Explore and pilot new research methodologies, and continuously improve operational efficiency.
- Experience conducting custom qualitative and quantitative sensory & consumer product research to uncover consumer needs in support of new product development, existing product maintenance initiatives, and competitive product testing.
- Deep knowledge of sensory and consumer methodologies including discrimination, descriptive, qualitative, and quantitative approaches.
- Experience with detailed research protocol and study document development.
- Independent learner and capable of managing multiple projects with minimal oversight; managing communication with stakeholders and partners.
- Ability to adjust, adapt, respond to, and be resourceful in the face of change to deliver business objectives.
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities along with an analytical aptitude, inquisitive nature, and a passion for uncovering insights.
- Ability to apply experimental design and multivariate statistics to sensory research, preferably with proven skills in Excel, Excel Stat, SPSS, R, SAS, JMP and/or Minitab.
- Skilled presenter, both orally and in writing; ability to “tell stories” and connect the dots for stakeholders.
- Possesses strong written and oral communication skills and critical thinking skills.
- Provides leadership and expertise in developing and applying CI methodologies throughout business.
- Love of sensory & consumer data, consumer decision-making, and puzzles
- Industry knowledge of vaping, tobacco, nicotine, or other fast-moving consumer product goods a plus.
- Experience operating in a regulated industry.
- Experience with IRB or ethics committee submission.
- BS Degree in Food Science or scientific field with a concentration in Sensory Science with 7-10 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s Degree in Food Science or scientific field with a concentration in Sensory Science with 5+ years of experience in product or sensory science research, consumer insights or relevant function.

SALARY RANGES:
Salary varies by role, level and location, and is dependent on the cost of labor in a given
geographic region among other factors. These ranges may be modified at any time.
SALARY RANGE:
$123,000—$170,000 USD
