Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under direct supervision of a licensed Nurse or other professional medical staff in a health care setting, performs a variety of health-related essential duties and responsibilities associated with patient care.

Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities

• Checks vital signs, weight and supervise weights, appropriate diet, exercise obtains specimens, and records results on patient’s chart.
• Explain to the patients the reason to obtain specimens for laboratory testing.
• Prepares collected specimens for pick-up by labeling and preparing required form(s).
• Administers emergency first aid, including basic life support procedures.
• Performs simple first aid such as applying bandaging.
• Prepares the patient for examination and assists medical providers during examination by providing necessary supplies/equipment
• Prepares examination room including cleaning and disinfecting of the equipment to be use
• Informs patients on proper preparation for various medical testing.
• Interviews patient to obtain routine personal and medical information and appropriate health history
• Protect the patients charts, appropriate forms and documents by adhering to HIPPA.
• Reports observations of the patient to clinical staff caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment.
• Answers routine inquiries of patients in person or via telephone
• Provides information to patients and their families regarding health care services and the achievement of healthy and safe living.
• Changes linen and makes beds.Keep the rooms, unit, utility, treatment and storage roomsin a neat and orderly fashion.
• Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees.
• Directs and escorts patients to other departments and/or health care settings, as needed.
• Obtains blood specimens for laboratory testing by performing venipuncture and/or fingerstick testing.
• Proficient in the use and maintenance Infection Control protocol of electrocardiogram and glucose machines
• Operates electrocardiograph equipment to perform EKG as order by the PMD.
• Basic knowledge of cardiac monitoring and rhythm
• Central Station Cardiac monitoring
• Frequent repositioning of patients and equipment in different position
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and
• Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director; and
• Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
  
  

Special Note

In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse’s Aide Certificate.
