Description
The Roose lab is seeking a Junior or Assistant Specialist to join our group and contribute to new and ongoing projects. The Roose lab focuses on understanding cell fitness and cell fate decisions driven by cell-cell interactions and signaling pathways, in the context of stem cell biology, cancer, and autoimmune diseases. In our leukemia work, we focus on developing a new in vitro system so that we can grow (and developmentally track) human leukemias and explore therapy development.
The candidate will be expected to contribute to this new in vitro system, termed bone marrow organoids. The work will have very stong emphasis on hydrogel strategies and other bioengineering technologies to develop bone marrow organoids, but also cell culture of leukemia cell lines, primary leukemia cultures, imaging, and spectral flow. An exceptional candidate will lead their own independent project, develop new ideas, be familiar with the literature, and write up results and generate figure panels. Additionally, the specialist will be expected to assist with managing day-to-day lab operations, and perform general lab duties and be a positive lab citizen.

Required Qualifications
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent degree) or four years of relevant research experience to be appointed at the Junior rank.
- Must have (or be in process of obtaining) a master’s degree or a baccalaureate degree with 3 or more years of research experience
- Experience with cell and tissue culture is a must. Affinity with tissue engineering, biomaterials and biomaterials processing is preferred.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
- Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team with researchers at various academic levels.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
- Prior experience in synthesis of polymers, photo-responsive hydrogels (syntetic and natural derived or inspired), and cell encapsulation.
- Prior experience with biomaterials processing, in particular additive and layer-less printing techniques.
- Experience with imagine modalities such as uCT scan, confocal and bright field microscopy is desired.
