Senior Accountant

This position is for a retail company based north of Westchester County, around 75 miles from NYC. This job is mostly remote, however you will need to travel to this area once a fortnight. If you are not able to do this then please do not apply.

The job is reporting based for a retail company with lots of consolidations. The client wants to hire a candidate from a public accounting background. The details are below:

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

• Review monthly site P&Ls, identify trends, and analyze impacts on the consolidated group.
• Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and provide reports to owners and senior management.
• Generate monthly flash reports.
• Collaborate with accounting personnel daily to resolve reporting issues and research accounting treatments for special transactions.
• Participate in all aspects of quarterly and annual bank reporting, including assessing the impact of new accounting rules and regulations.
• Develop and maintain the accounting policy manual.

Financial Analysis:

• Create financial reports to help owners and senior management understand underlying business performance.
• Conduct variance and key ratio analyses to explain fluctuations in financial results by location, business line, and the consolidated group.
• Develop and analyze reports to assess the impact of sales mix and pricing variations.
• Support the preparation of quarterly bank covenant compliance calculations and special projects.
• Assist in quarterly forecasting and the annual budgeting process.
• Review industry financial data by attending investor conference calls and reading public filings to understand trends and their impact.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Support the month-end close process, including bank reconciliations, rebate accounting, accrued expense analysis, and dealer commission calculations.
• Coordinate with the tax firm to ensure timely filing of monthly sales and fuel tax returns.
• Prepare annual personal property tax returns and income & expense reports for various jurisdictions in CT and NJ.

Qualifications:

• 3-5+ years of public accounting experience.
• Experience preparing financial statements, including drafting footnote disclosures; SEC reporting experience is a plus.
• CPA preferred; MBA is an added advantage.
• Familiarity with general ledger packages is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong skills in Excel.
