Lyons Assessment Consulting is a leader in supporting innovation in educational assessment and accountability. We offer a full-range of custom consulting solutions. Our services include supporting the design of innovative assessment and accountability systems, leading research and producing white papers, and serving as technical advisers to large and complex projects. 


Our clients include forward thinking non-profit organizations, government education agencies, testing companies, and influential policy think tanks who partner with the team at Lyons Assessment Consulting to create meaningful improvements in educational assessment and accountability. We work closely with our clients to transform traditional systems to better serve all students.


Lyons Assessment Consulting is a woman-owned small business and has been in operation since January 2019. Lyons Assessment Consulting currently staffs between 6-8 part-time associates to support its clients. The senior associate position is the first full time employee outside the owner. 


About the Position

60% Client-Serving Work (Billable)

The senior associate is expected to effectively manage and prioritize a diverse portfolio of consulting projects. The senior associate will work both independently and collaboratively to advance the goals and deliverables for our current portfolio of projects. This will include project management, framework development, research, data analysis, report writing, preparing presentations, and attending or leading client meetings. 


20% Dissemination & Thought Leadership 

The senior associate is expected to contribute to the national dialogue related to student assessment and accountability. This includes presenting our work at national conferences and staying active in publishing white papers, articles, and blogs. The senior associate is expected to seek out ways to showcase our firm’s thought leadership and create meaningful opportunities for collaborations and strategic partnerships within the field. 


20% Business Development 

The senior associate will serve as a key partner in developing the business, including internal operations and growing our portfolio of projects. The senior associate will help to develop and document our standard operating procedures as well as create systems to support effective process management. Additionally, the senior associate will be expected to seek out potential new project opportunities and write proposals.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Educational Measurement or related field with 5+ years of experience, or Masters degree in Educational Measurement or related field with 8+ years of experience
  • Proven success leading consulting projects and/or funded research related to k-12 assessment
  • Excellent academic writing skills including peer reviewed publications
  • Deep knowledge of psychometrics and advanced quantitative methodologies, facility in R or similar programming language
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and communication skills
  • Commitment to equity and anti-racism
  • Must thrive in fast-paced environment, be comfortable with ambiguity, have a penchant for entrepreneurism
  • Highly organized, strong time and project management skills
