We’re thrilled to share the release of a new report from Lyons Assessment Consulting and Foresight Law + Policy, PLLC entitled, “Additional Examples of Evidence for Peer Review: Recommendations for Supporting Innovative State Assessment Systems.” The purpose of this report is to encourage innovation in state assessment by providing recommendations on revisions to the peer review guidance that address the unique evidentiary considerations for assessment models that depart from the status quo. The expert-backed recommendations in this report are designed to: ▶︎ Give confidence to states that the peer review process is flexible and can accommodate variations in assessment models ▶︎ Improve the quality of state submissions by expanding on the types of evidence that would be appropriate to submit, particularly in cases where the existing examples of evidence in the peer review process may not directly apply ▶︎ Signal to peer reviewers that there are often many different legitimate ways to provide evidence in support of the critical elements, especially in the context of innovative models Special thank you to authors Samuel Ihlenfeldt, Sanford R. Student, Susan Lyons, Nathan Dadey, Ellen Forte, and Phoebe Winter, contributors Aneesha Badrinarayan, Laine Bradshaw, Maria D'Brot, Charles DePascale, Wei He, MS, MBA, Andrew Ho, Meagan Karvonen, Pohai Kukea Shultz, Susan Lottridge, Rochelle Michel, and Stephen Sireci, and the ongoing thought partnership of Kirsten Taylor Carr and Matthew Blomstedt of Foresight Law + Policy, PLLC. We've been busy conferencing in September. Earlier this month, Dr. Susan Lyons presented at National Council on Measurement in Education's Classroom Assessment Conference with partners at the Chicago Public Schools, Peter Leonard, Sasha (Alexandra) Klyachkina, and colleagues Aneesha Badrinarayan and Erika Landl to share a new framework for culturally conscious assessment. Last week, Susan served as a panelist with Juan D'Brot and Ye Tong at the Center for Assessment's RILS conference to discuss Trailblazing Transformations in the area of assessment use and consequences. This has been such thought-provoking work, and I am so grateful to learn with amazing colleagues like Susan Lyons through this project. Peter Leonard and Sasha (Alexandra) Klyachkina are such amazing examples of how leaders can demand that assessments do more than "no harm"--that we build assessment systems that actively disrupt inequity and promote justice. #culturallyresponsive #assessment #equity
Energizing to bring representatives from across our Office and Teaching and Learning together this week to experiment applying our culturally responsive assessment framework, developed in partnership with Susan Lyons & Aneesha Badrinarayan, to our current assessments, practicing creating tasks with it in mind, and working to ensure coherence across our district frameworks & visions. Bringing this framework to life requires partnership with our curriculum designers who work to continuously improve our assessments & our content & cross-content teams who support their implementation and use in classrooms. Feel lucky to work alongside, learn from, and be challenged by so many brilliant folks!
