Senior Equipment Operator - Water

The purpose of this position is to assist the assigned department with projects by operating different types of equipment and maintenance.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Transports, sets up, and operates equipment such as front-end loader, backhoe, mini-excavator, bobcat, dump truck, hydro seeder, etc. to assist with a variety of construction.
  • Performs inspection or preoperational checklist on all equipment and determines and/or conducts preventative maintenance and cleaning.
  • Generates and completes all assigned work orders and documents daily work activities.
  • Provides information to customers as requested.
  • Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment in the absence of a Water Crew Supervisor.

  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Licensing And Certifications

  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License;

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, and talking.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards.

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency, with at least three (3) years of relevant experience operating equipment; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
