Summary

We are seeking a Senior Director of Merchandising to join our Product Management team. This lead merchant role is pivotal in shaping the overall assortment strategy, inventory management, and product lifecycle for a highly SKU-intensive business with a diverse portfolio of product categories and in-house manufacturing. This position offers substantial opportunities for professional growth and advancement into high-level roles within our organization.

In this hands-on role, you will balance strategic vision with tactical execution, managing day-to-day tasks such as assortment planning, pricing, promotion/markdown strategies, buy planning, receipt plans, store allocation strategies, gross margin optimization, and overall inventory management. Your impact on new product development and growth will be significant, with a focus on meeting consumer needs while differentiating our brand from the competition.

SVP, Product Management & Commercial

Main Responsibilities

  • Define product needs by classification/hierarchy to align with company objectives, managing the product assortment within a financial framework that meets or exceeds sales and margin plans.
  • Maintain inventory levels based on open-to-buy, inventory turnover, sales plans, and key budget/financial metrics.
  • Collaborate to develop and execute a comprehensive product development plan, including competitive assessments, deep understanding of consumer needs, and identification of new product categories or segments to drive profitable growth.
  • Identify key competitors and understand consumer perceptions of both Tandy and the competition to develop a product strategy that meets consumer needs and differentiates from competitors.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and new vendors/suppliers through effective communication, collaboration, and planning.
  • Translate product strategies into actionable plans, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams (marketing, store operations, etc.) to communicate big ideas, key investments, and in-store execution.
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities, motivating and mentoring team members at different levels, and effectively managing relationships up, down, and across the organization.
  • Utilize a strong product development background with a proven track record of success in direct importing, product knowledge, sourcing, assortment optimization, retail planning, and supplier management.

Essential Qualifications

  • 10+ years of general merchandising experience.
  • Proven track record in product development, including direct importing of merchandise, sourcing, assortment optimization, retail planning, and supplier management.
  • Experience in a direct-to-consumer industry.
  • Deep knowledge of retail landscapes, with experience managing complex categories within an omni-channel environment.
  • Expertise in maintaining inventory levels based on financial metrics.
  • Success in aligning product needs with company objectives and managing assortments within financial targets.
  • Innovative thinker, capable of synthesizing consumer insights, trends, and competitive analysis to make informed product decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both external and internal business partners.
  • High-energy, self-starter with strong problem-solving skills, able to work within ambiguous situations in a high-performance environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with the ability to manage, motivate and mentor team members at all levels and manage relationships up, down, and across the organization.
  • Willingness to travel (International and Domestic), approximately 10% of the time.
  • Balanced creative and analytical thinking (left/right brain balance).
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in learning and utilizing in-house systems.
