Job Description

PURPOSE

Fortis is seeking a passionate Sustainability Coordinator to join our team to help drive our sustainability mission. Fortis has always valued sustainability and we have recently taken steps to deepen our corporate sustainability commitment and priorities. The Sustainability Coordinator will have an exciting opportunity to help influence the company’s future sustainability standards and direction as well as support our clients’ evolving sustainability needs on site.

The primary purpose of the Sustainability Coordinator role is to support sustainability initiatives at Fortis job sites, educate site teams on sustainability requirements and new initiatives, and support Fortis’s expanding corporate sustainability program under the direction of the Senior Sustainability Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Support Fortis construction teams in delivering client-driven sustainability initiatives – including measuring jobsite emissions, construction waste management, lower carbon construction materials, and other.
  • Manage data collection and tracking for client sustainability requirements, ensuring data is collected from site teams and trade partners and delivered to client on time and organized.
  • Assist in trade partner trainings for project sustainability goals and requirements
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and tracking of Fortis jobsite and company-wide sustainability standards for carbon, waste, water, materials, and wellness
  • Coordinate across Fortis Operations and Shared Services teams to track data relating to Fortis corporate sustainability standards
  • Research strategies to lower Fortis’s overall environmental footprint, i.e. warehouse material and equipment strategies, fleet decarbonization, and others.
  • Contribute to company-wide sustainability communications, articles, and events
  • Stay up to date on sustainability trends across the globe, US and construction markets

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years working in a sustainability role related to green building, commercial construction sustainability, or corporate sustainability / ESG
  • Understanding of sustainability strategies including embodied carbon, life cycle assessment, greenhouse gas and emissions reporting, and other relevant functions.
  • Experience working with construction teams and design teams in documenting LEED, utilizing EC3 calculator, or other green building frameworks
  • Ability to work successfully on a construction jobsite with a General Contractor and with subcontractors
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation and a customer-focused mindset
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written communication
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills with the ability to manage workload independently
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making and investigation skills

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a professional office environment. Role is stationary, often standing or sitting for long periods of time. Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing. May occasionally push, pull or lift up to 25 lbs. Up to 25% U.S. travel required.
