El Camino Health Medical Network, a leading/growing physician organization and an affiliate of El Camino Health, is a California Medical Foundation and currently operates 19 community-based ambulatory care clinics and medical practices in Los Gatos, San Jose, Cupertino, and Mountain View. San Jose Medical Group is multi-specialty group with more than 60 physicians serving the South Bay since 1955. The group has received recognition from health plans and rating agencies for its patient satisfaction, quality and affordability. The group has locations in San Jose, Los Gatos, Willow Glen and Morgan Hill.


Urology Surgeons of Northern California

Urology Surgeons of Northern California is the largest group of urologists in the region with 18 physicians and providers. The group operates at six different locations in Mountain View, Los Gatos, and San Jose.

About the Position:


The Vice President of Clinic Operations will oversee the strategic and operational leadership for a multi-site ambulatory care and physician practice group. This role is pivotal in ensuring the efficient management of clinic operations, enhancing patient care services, and driving the growth and profitability of the practice group. The Vice President of Clinic Operations will work closely with senior leadership, physicians, and staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across all sites. In partnership with physician leaders of affiliated medical groups, the Vice President of Clinic Operations is accountable for identifying and implementing opportunities to optimize patient access, operational performance, physician alignment, patient experience, financial performance, and provider and staff engagement.


The ideal candidate is an accomplished and strategic leader with extensive experience in managing multi-site ambulatory care and physician practice groups. This individual excels in operational leadership. They possess strong strategic acumen and a deep understanding of healthcare operations, enabling them to oversee efficient clinic management and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across all sites. The candidate demonstrates exceptional collaboration skills, working closely with senior leadership, physicians, and staff to achieve organizational goals.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with senior leadership, refine and execute the overall strategy of the medical groups and strengthen/align the business and clinical objectives across the continuum, positioning the health system and medical groups.
  • Collaborate with leaders across El Camino Health to align operational systems and processes across the broader enterprise.
  • Maintain high employee engagement and positive relationships with employees and management staff to enhance productivity and the quality of work life in the organization. Lead efforts to improve the work environment and optimal caregiver engagement. Empower employees at all levels to be innovative and action-oriented while advancing a culture of accountability with clearly established lines of authority and decision-making.
  • Maintain positive relationships and a culture of trust between administration and providers.
  • Integrate providers into decision-making processes and ensure that their needs are met.
  • Demonstrate visibility with the providers and the ability to facilitate smooth communication through operational transparency.
  • In collaboration with other leaders, ensure that ECHMN is in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Operate ambulatory clinics within ECHMN to ensure financial strength, reviewing results on an ongoing basis and taking corrective action to achieve the annual budget. Responsible for setting and meeting budgetary targets and strategies to improve financial performance of the group/ health system and cost reduction/value improvement efforts.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field.
  • MHA or MBA is highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressive leadership roles in a multi-specialty group practice, or medical foundation within an integrated health system. Experience working collaboratively with community-based providers is required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience with Lean/Six Sigma in a physician practice setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership accomplishments in the overall improvement of financial and ambulatory operational performance of a healthcare organization.
  • Strong business acumen, quality, and metrics orientation. Financially astute and highly experienced in using, developing and implementing benchmarks and other tools that improve operating, financial and service performance.
  • Financial management and business development, as well as P&L experience managing multi-site, multi-specialty medical groups.
  • Successful track record of redesigning practice management systems and aligning incentives that have diminished silos and helped improve the performance across clinical specialties.
  • Experience with IT systems; electronic health records (EHR) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems. EPIC EHR experience highly preferred. Ability to assist the health system in making key IT-related decisions impacting physician practices.
  • Understanding of Physician Practice law and Stark laws.


Salary range: A reasonable starting salary expectation is between $250,000 and $275,000, based upon related/relevant experience and internal equity.
