StevenDouglas Associates has been exclusively retained by highly acquisitive and well capitalized PE-backed multi-specialty physician practice management company based in Torrance, CA on their search for a Vice President of Strategic and Operational Finance.


The individual in this role will be highly technical with at least 10 years of progressive experience in leading an FP&A function in a fast-growth PRIVATE EQUITY backed healthcare entity.


This is a NEWLY CREATED role for this rapidly growing entity. The VP of Strategic and Operational Finance will partner with C-Suite, senior management and affiliated physicians to provide input and guidance on business issues and to provide strategic insights, financial acumen and leadership on issues affecting all of the company's business segments.


This position will conduct a wide array of financial and operational analyses, develop key metrics needed to maximize quality care and profitability, and drive broad business intelligence activities for operations and investors by managing the tracking and benchmarking of our strategic growth initiatives, FP&A processes and tools.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Works with business users to refine and improve current reporting and analysis, often performing ad hoc reporting on our organic growth initiatives and mergers and acquisitions, as well as:


  • Develops, analyzes and interprets monthly productivity reports for executive and physician leaders and assists with the development of action plans to address outliers.
  • Manages a team of analysts (currently two with potential growth in department size throughout 2023) to prepare, produce and maintain weekly / monthly dashboards and disseminates to appropriate parties, (C-Suite; Physician Leaders; Department Leaders).
  • Prepares complex analytical reports including payor and Revenue Cycle Analytics, labor analysis, business trends analysis, and special ad-hoc projects related to the designated business unit.
  • Work on investor, board presentations and complex financial models including overhead allocations and physician compensation models and reports.
  • Supports business unit vice presidents, directors and managers (leaders).
  • Provides oversight and training to the finance/operational teams as assigned.
  • Serves as physician finance lead for assigned business units including compiling and analyzing all key-performance indicators (RVU's; Gross Charges; Payor Mix; Encounters) in conjunction with financial information.
  • Leads the preparation of annual budgets, monthly flex budgets, forecasts, and operating plans in conjunction with controller and operational leaders.
  • Leads ROI/NPV/IRR analysis, making recommendations to management, based on historical financial data.
  • § Researches, analyzes and synthesizes data from multiple sources into business information as directed and by self-identification of business information needs.
  • Works with management and business units to determine strategic objectives and identify opportunities to meet these goals.
  • Engages in a business-partnering role with the operational teams to deliver information and drive positive business results.
  • Analyzes projections vs actual results with respect to various operating strategies, shareholder value measures, and other metrics or objectives.
  • Oversees the preparation of labor benchmarking and analyzes and interprets results and assists with the development of action plans


  • QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Superior analytical skills including mastery of all MS-Office tools and SQL database queries
  • Ability to manage data and to synthesize into reportable and understandable context.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work equally well with physicians, clinical staff and corporate executives


LICENSES, CERTIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor s degree in finance or accounting AND MBA high desired.


Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in finance, financial analysis or strategic planning.


Experience in leading a data-driven FP&A team in a growing MSO or DSO would transition well into this role. Demonstrated experience working with financial systems, including operations, forecasting and modeling, analysis and budgeting tools.


This opportunity offers a hybrid work schedule working from their Torrance location. There would be up to 20% travel within CA or the Western US states.


Very strong compensation structure to include base salary to 225k~ with annual bonus and an equity position.
