Job Summary

Serves as the clinical leader under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer with a matrix clinically to the Chief Clinical Officer. Responsible for executing strategies that both improves the quality of health care, leads culture change across the medical staff, and oversees and directs the daily physician operations of NCH. Serves as the leader and facilitator to create and coordinate physician support activities and clinical resource management. Leads clinical and quality initiatives that support the provision of consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital and facilitates the analysis of quality performance and prioritization improvement opportunities ensuring the collaboration and coordination of all stakeholders in these processes Consults on an array of issues involving physicians and works as a dyad leader with NCH Chief Nursing Officer across all hospital initiatives to create a system of partnership between physicians and nurses. Collaborates with the President of NCPS on hospital initiatives. Builds NCH reputation locally and nationally via public relations and marketing as the hospital CMO.

Job Specific Duties

  • Directs the daily physician operations of the hospital. Serves as the leader and facilitator in the hospital’s efforts to create and coordinate physician support activities and clinical resource management.
  • Conducts reviews of adult exemptions for service at the hospital.
  • Leads the culture change across the organization to a medical staff which is part of a health system as opposed to autonomous physicians.
  • Facilitates communication with medical leadership and community physicians.
  • Leads design of clinical models with physician, nursing, and administrative leadership. Assists in modification of these models to gain maximum efficacy and support for patient care and hospital protocols.
  • Collaborates with division directors and department heads in creating clinical and financial dashboards according to hospital metrics. Clinical dashboards will consist of performance metrics that are transparent to all across the organization and include standards put forward by the US News and World Report Survey.
  • Supports CCO NCHS and NCPS President in quality of care, hiring, training and performance evaluation of physicians on staff.
  • Supports President of the Medical Staff and division directors and department chiefs in onboarding of new physicians to the medical staff on the NCH Hospital operations.
  • Works together with Medical Education Director and Residency Program Director to create the required partnership between residents/fellows and the medical staff in the hospital.
  • Continuously assesses the scope and depth of medical services offered across the hospital to ensure the organization is meeting the needs of patients and departments. Collaborates with executive leadership to identify possible new service lines and evaluation.
  • Provides executive team with clinical perspective as it relates to financial decisions concerning department/division budgets, expansion of new clinical initiatives, capital investments, etc.
  • Involved with a value-based care strategy for the hospital and health plan as it relates to population health and increased risk driven strategies with health plans
  • Supports VP NCH & NCPS Strategy physician liaison work as dyad and work with liaisons in outreach to the community.
  • Lead initiatives related to patient experience and work closely with Patient/Family Services on hospital satisfaction scores.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership teams to maintain standards of care and provide insight of clinical care in regards to strategic initiatives.
  • Involved with a value-based care strategy for the hospital and health plan as it relates to population health and increased risk driven strategies with health plans.
  • Oversees all utilization review functions and has oversight over Physician Advisors and Case Management.
  • Provides oversight of physician documentation practices and lead clinical documentation improvement initiatives and monitor hospital’s Case Mix Index.
  • Oversees all efforts as it relates to LOS and optimal utilization of care pathways with limited variation in practice.
  • Promotes effective use of resources and promote high valued care. Supports cost-effective strategies for clinical staff and ensure medical interventions are efficient and medically necessary.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine - graduate of an accredited Medical School
  • Doctor of Medicine active Florida physician license without any restrictions
  • Board Certification and Credentialed
  • Level II Background Check
  • 7-10 years Clinical practice in a primary care setting and medical administrative experience
