Vice President, US Safety

About The Role

The Vice President, Safety, has extensive knowledge and technical specialization in contractor and construction safety engineering to identify potential safety risks related to Boldyn’s network infrastructure, construction sites, and field operations across the United States. This role is pivotal in developing, overseeing, and managing the organization's safety standards, safety training program, regulatory compliance, and industrial hygiene practices aligned with Division and Corporate business strategy.

What You’ll Be Doing

Leading the growing Safety organization of the US Division; creating the strategic and tactical safety program and directing the implementation across our functional groups nationwide. Be someone who uses current technology to develop new features of tracking and communicating safety processes and statuses across the organization. A pragmatic leader who can demonstrate a passion for safety and the positive outcomes that a strong safety program has delivered.

Safety Policies and Procedures

  • Develop & implement cost-effective health & safety programs that ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including but not limited to EPA, OSHA, and corporate guidelines.
  • Provides policy/directives/instructions administering Boldyn’s adherence to regulatory and contract requirements.
  • Remains cognizant of federal, state, local environmental, health and safety regulations. Disseminates information on new/revised regulations to supervisors and employees through verbal and written communications and through revisions to the Corporate H&S Policies.
  • Ensure Boldyn’s safety program components comply with the mandated elements required by Boldyn’s various client contracts.


Training and Education

  • Develop and manage the delivery of Occupational Health and Safety training programs for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate staff to ensure they continuously implement appropriate safety controls and adhere to applicable rules, regulations, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participates and/or conducts training, including OSHA 30-hr Construction Safety, Scaffold User, and PPE for Supervisors.
  • Ensure that training materials are up-to-date and effective for the assigned department. In addition, ensuring all employees receive all required annual training and all safety records are maintained for compliance.
  • Conducts mandated re-orientation training of personnel responsible for overseeing/supervising work that receives unsatisfactory findings.
  • Bringing awareness of safety trends and advancements and informing the company across all divisions of new and improved safety traits and elements.


Risk Assessment and Mitigation

  • Analyses data generated by Safety & Health studies and compiles reports including findings and recommendations including administrative, emergency and PPE controls.
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements at various types of installations including (towers, rooftop installations, small cells within high pedestrian and vehicular traffic zones, DAS venues, commercial Wi-Fi, and OSP fiber facilities).
  • Create and implement engineering controls, PPE, and administrative controls to minimize employee exposure to workplace hazards.


Incident Investigation and Reporting

  • Reviews and provides trend analyses and solutions subsequent to accident investigation and near misses.
  • Provides monthly and quarterly assessment summaries to Project/Program leadership detailing the project, program strengths, and improvement areas.
  • Monitor adherence to Boldyn's safety policies and procedures by both staff and contractors; enforce standards under Boldyn's no blame culture while taking ownership of corrective actions where necessary.
  • Investigate safety incidents, near misses, and accidents promptly with emphasis on shared learning and prevention of re-occurrence.
  • Maintain accurate records and report incidents to relevant authorities as required.


Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with other departments (engineering, operations, legal) to integrate safety practices into all aspects of Boldyn projects.
  • Collaborate with Boldyn’s Group Safety team and other Divisional Safety leads (UK, Ireland, Italy & Hong Kong) to share learnings and promote best practices.
  • Communicate safety expectations to all stakeholders, including contractors and subcontractors.
  • Provide contracting expertise to ensure external vendors performing installation and maintenance activities have prerequisite safety program components and training certifications required by Boldyn and its Mobile Network Operator clients.

You might also have some of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or Construction Safety, master’s preferred or combination of experience and education.
  • Must have a minimum of ten years of related work experience.
  • Must have a minimum of ten years in a management or supervisory role and/or safety manager role in a large, matrixed organization.
  • Able to demonstrate technical construction safety knowledge, including but not limited to fall protection, scaffolding, confined spaces, cranes/rigging, material handling, and general hazard recognition. Telecom experience a plus.
  • Excellent computer skillsets with Microsoft Office Suite of products (Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills that enable ability to collaborate, gain trust, and influence at all levels.
  • Ability to create a sense of urgency and employee awareness around regulatory compliance, and injury and illness prevention.
  • Must work effectively in the office and on job sites, indoors and outdoors, during all weather conditions.
  • Able to immediately visit job sites for any incident (injury, accident, near miss) to review and perform follow-up actions.
  • Ability to conduct field observations/audits, including coaching and correcting.
  • Possess a valid OSHA 30-hour card in the Construction Industry under five years old.


Travel:

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
  • Ability to respond as needed to after-business hours issues.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.


Preferred:

  • Industry-recognized certification in industrial hygiene (e.g., CIH, IHT) and/or indoor environmental or air quality consulting (e.g., CIEC, CIAQP)
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER)
  • Experience performing health and safety oversight. Including developing policies and procedures in a corporate environment (agencies, large capital programs, etc.)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
