Over the last few weeks we have been running a new system test in our Electromobility Lab! We have performed a BEMU traction system test. The elements tested included the batteries and storage system together with the motors, transformer and INGETRAC converter. The main objectives are to check the performance of the whole traction system & to check the integration between the different elements in order to reduce the vehicle test time.

Last week, i was given the opportunity to present our newest work on "Reducing Li-ion battery cycle life testing costs with robust hybrid aging predictors" on the #EVS37 in Seoul, South Korea. 🔋🚗⚡ As part of this work, we were able to show that the use of #MachineLearning can reduce the costs of carrying out aging tests on Li-ion batteries by up to 43% and ensure prediction errors below 5% MAPE. I am thrilled to announce that our paper has been accepted for presentation at the SAE International World Congress Experience (#WCX, Detroit, April 16-18, 2024). I’d like to thank my supervisor, Dr. Gordon McTaggart-Cowan, for his great support, insight and feedback during this work. This study presents two methods for downsizing heavy-duty engines by leveraging an experimentally validated system-level model. Engine scaling is one of the technology systems that need to be considered, given the advances of hybrid-electric powertrains and the necessity of optimum component sizing. By using fast-to-run, transient capable 1-D models, our findings contribute to evaluating the potential for hybridizing long-haul heavy-duty trucks.
