For those of us who have worked in the Hotel & Travel Industry, we understand the challenges that come with the job. However, we also know how rewarding it can be. One of the most rewarding aspects for me is connecting with great leaders in the industry and learning from them. Recently, my colleague Trevor Simpson had a conversation with Rockbridge CEO and co-founder, James Merkel that provided valuable perspective on just how challenging the Hospitality Industry can be. I’m reading the book “Unreasonable Hospitality” by William Guidara, and it’s challenging me to rethink how we can better serve our “guests” in the public sector while taking better care of our team members so that they can deliver exceptional service! Answer? Through the lens of hospitality. Coming from a hospitality background where the focus was guest satisfaction and pure enjoyment in exceeding expectations, it’s almost a paradigm shift for the public sector to think in this manner where red tape, slow service, and outdated processes can be the norm. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be this way!
