Moonshots for nature & humanity. Prev: Google, Oceankind. Adventure traveler. Ocean lover. Catalyst for joy & purpose.
I'm working on choosing an ambitious goal for 2024 for running. Would love some suggestions for goals and training approaches. I want this to be fun, not become a singular obsession. I have other goals to spend time on too, like bench pressing my weight (165lbs) and of course non-fitness goals. At 43, I recognize that my body is built more for sprinting and strength than endurance, so I'm focusing on 5K or less. No marathons for me. Some background... Without any training, in 2020 I shocked myself by running a 5:59 mile on a treadmill. But then, COVID. Last month, also with minimal training, I ran a 6:15 mile on an uneven outdoor track. Today on a treadmill at Barry's bootcamp, at the end of a long workout, I ran a 4-minute mile pace for about 30 seconds, and probably could have gone a bit longer. Recently I ran a 5K in 23 minutes in 32-degree weather. So, a 5-minute mile sounds exciting, but I don't think it's reasonable given my limited access to a track or high-speed treadmill. Yes, I could buy a better treadmill. But the articles below make me think 5:30 is more suitable. Or maybe I focus on 100m, 200m, or 400m? Or maybe a 20-minute 5k? Any suggestions from more experienced runners out there? https://lnkd.in/g_sH8A3u https://lnkd.in/g26RTwGp #running #fitness #goalsetting

𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 (𝐅𝐓𝐏) 𝐂𝐘𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 (𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝟔-𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 – 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 Functional Threshold Power (FTP) is a key determinant of cycling fitness. By enhancing your FTP by definition you will be a fitter, faster cyclist. Designed for Intermediate cyclists and triathletes who are looking to enhance their FTP, you can use this programme as part of your base training to set you up prior to a specific build phase or as the final 6 weeks prior to an event to maximise your fitness prior to it. Crafted by myself, Ray Boardman PGDipSportsMed, PGDipRehab, PGCertSc (Exercise Science), BSc (Anatomy), DipSportsStudies this plan encapsulates my passion for the sport, my experience from completing dozens of cyclists and triathletes to sporting success. Being 6 weeks in duration (you can start this programme any time and reuse it), this plan starts with a FTP test and also includes one in Week 6 so you can see your improvement. Each week contains a long ride, a higher intensity session and a steady ride. You will build up to a 3 and a half hour ride. To successfully use this programme you need to be using a Power Meter in order to track your progress and measure your intensity. Prior to using this plan, you should be able to cycle comfortably for two hours. I’m one of the very few people to stand behind their Training Plans on Training Peaks. I offer a Money back guarantee with all my training plans. If you are not happy with the programme for whatever reason touch base with me and I’ll make it right. If I can’t make it right (like you think my nose is crooked or my eyes funny) I’ll give you your money back. https://lnkd.in/g9jK2WCs

This month's highlighted PTotR athlete is Cindy!! How long have you been running? About 9 years What accomplishment in your running journey are you most proud of? Wild Duluth 50K in 2020 under less-than-ideal running conditions What about running do you enjoy the most? Getting outdoors and sometimes sharing these runs with friends What are your goals for the upcoming year? To run the Midwest States 100 50K - it is in the backyard of where I grew up What is your favorite pre-race meal? Pasta or rice with a bit of lighter protein - for lunch the day before. Then a light dinner mostly carbs. If you could create a gel flavor, what would it be? I think there are no new gel flavor left to create. :) What is your favorite way to celebrate completing a race? Visit with fellow runners and eventually have some food along with a beer What piece of advice would you give other runners? Don't run every run like it is a race, if something hurts - get it taken care of, and take time to enjoy being outside How do you stay motivated when you don't want to run? If I have a run planned, it is for a reason or goal. I cannot put my reasons or goals aside or I will hate myself the rest of the day. Also, I have been in the habit of doing workouts of some kind for years. It is a part of me. What lead you to wanting to work with a coach? I felt like was putting a lot of work into running and strength, but may be needed to train a little smarter. What is one fun fact about you? I like to travel and explore new places, whether it is just a few miles from home, in a different state, or a different country.

Transitioning from treadmill to outdoor running poses challenges, but the rewards and advantages of engaging in outdoor runs make the shift worthwhile. Switching to outdoor running may seem intimidating if you're accustomed to exclusively running on a treadmill. However, the benefits of running outside are substantial: the fresh air provides a mental uplift, and despite the potentially more demanding terrain, it can make you a more resilient and fit runner. The positive aspects of outdoor running far surpass any drawbacks. Here are some valuable tips for smoothly transitioning from treadmill to outdoor running. https://lnkd.in/dUZ2sHSe #Alabso #MarathonTiming #Duathlon #Triathlon #UltraRun #PrecisionTiming #RaceWithAlabso #AthleteExperience #GameChanger #AlabsoTiming #MarathonSolutions #EventExcellence #marathontraining #running #run #marathon #runner #runningcommunity #runners #runnerscommunity #training #trailrunning #runnersworld #marathonrunner #runnerslife #marathoner #fitnessmotivation #India #BetterTiming
