Yesterday marked momentous day for Vantiva as we celebrated 22 million global Android TV set-top box sales since 2015. As of the end of 2023, we have earned a 25% market share according to Omdia’s STB 3Q23 report. We extend our thanks to Android TV and our valued customers for their trust in our ability to develop, integrate and support cutting-edge STBs. We introduced our first Android TV STB in 2015 with SVELTE, followed by JADE in 2020, which is available with Google Assistant for voice searches. In 2022, we introduced SOUNDSCAPE, a CSI Innovation Award winner that combined a STB and soundbar into a single device. Additionally, over the past nine years we have implemented more than 30 software upgrades and provided the most Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ certifications in the industry. Android TV has transformed televisions into versatile entertainment hubs by delivering user-friendly features, like voice search and content personalization. “As Pay-TV operators are challenged by unfavourable market conditions, and as consumer behaviour changes, investing in new set-top-box deployments becomes harder to justify,” says James Manning Smith, “Instead Pay-TV providers are investing in content partnerships and bundling offers with video on demand providers, or even pivoting to add-on services or products outside the realm of home entertainment." The evolution of television technology presents a significant challenge for pay-TV operators who are increasingly looking to ditch the traditional set-top box. With the explosion of streaming services, navigating the complexities of viewer preferences has never been more crucial. The latest industry insights highlight how players like Sky are redefining the game with innovative smart TVs that serve as the default user interface. By doing so, they not only streamline access to content but also create a more seamless experience for viewers. For pay-TV providers contemplating a shift, it's essential to evaluate the options. Building proprietary smart TVs, striking deals with established manufacturers, or evolving beyond just being another app could be the key to staying relevant. The potential to engage subscribers directly through their primary screen could significantly enhance viewer loyalty and satisfaction. The benefits of adopting these strategies are clear: enhanced user experience, increased brand visibility, and ultimately, a stronger competitive edge in a saturated market. What strategies do you think pay-TV operators should explore next? Share your thoughts or experiences with the changes in television technology! https://lnkd.in/eQW2qzZv

In Q1 2024, the SVOD industry added 55.2 millions subs but lost 50.4 million subscribers - netting just 4.8 million paying customers in the quarter, across all services. Thank you Evan Shapīro for sharing this data, released by Antenna. So, it is quite clear, that the subscription economy needs to look for new ways of enabling brands to untether themselves from the established distribution channels and offer deep, direct relationships with their customers, based on a long-term allegiance. Technologies for direct instream experiences (Ads, shopping and bonus content information) are on the rise, tested now by Prime Video (US) or RTL (Germany, with Jay: Unlock the future of streaming). For consumers, this translates to much more choice, a dramatically better product experience, and a deeper connection with the brands they love.

NOW goes to the US "NOW the pay-as-you-go brand originally launched by Sky in the UK market, is now extending to the United States. Comcast says NOW is “a new brand of quality, low-cost Internet, mobile and streaming TV products that consumers can purchase month-to-month, whenever they want.”" It's very interesting to see a brand that's had success in Europe go to the US to see if it make it. Normally, we're very used to seeing things the other way round, with some things really taking off, and others not. "Initial customer trials for NOW Internet and Mobile have already begun in Hartford, New Haven, Houston, and Miami, with a full-scale national launch across all Comcast service areas expected in the coming weeks. NOW TV and WiFi Pass are already available in areas where Comcast provides service." Comcast has become synonymous with traditional TV in the USA, and in that market, which has seen cord-cutting accelerating to a high level, it's a smart move to step into the #VOD #streamingplatform space. Trouble is, have they left it too late? It's an idea that originated from the UK, which also had a strong #dth neighbourhood, and is finding success, although that may be the unique state of the UK/Sky market, where HBO licences a lot of its content to Sky. Why did it take Comcast so long to launch their #streamingservice in the US and is it too late to make an impact in the US? #sky #skytv #traditionaltv #television #mediaindustry #tvindustry https://lnkd.in/eKg5EQvq

OTT Media Strategist | Solving Complex OTT Challenges for Growth and Innovation | Media and Entertainment | Pay TV Operators | Accedo.tv
In early 2023, Google announced that Android TV OS is being used by 150 million monthly active devices (powering both Android TV and Google TV). This is an increase of about 40 million devices in 12 months, equivalent to 35% year-over-year growth. How does Google’s Android TV Operator Tier enable Pay TV Operators to get the best bang for their buck? ✅ The Operator Tier certification program enables Pay TV operators to deliver a quality, customized and branded user experience to viewers but at a fraction of the cost of a full custom development. ✅ Pay TV operators have the flexibility to adapt their content offering to meet the needs of viewers today, by providing access to OTT services, third party content alongside their standard broadcast offering. ✅ The ability to customize the UX of Android TV is particularly appealing since it allows operators to differentiate their service and offer a quality viewing experience with advanced features such as voice control and access to Google Assistant as well as access to the Google ecosystem. We published a #RetailTech report today on connected TVs, taking a look at this dynamic category. Key takeaways: * The majority of TVs are connected—88% of US households owned at least one Internet-connected TV in 2023 (Leichtman Research Group) * Walmart would gain a direct data and content pipeline to consumers with its proposed $2.3B acquisition of Vizio. In addition to TVs, Vizio offers apps, content including stoppable content, and is a good fit with Walmart's customer base. * TV Shopping uses legacy QR codes today, but stay tuned to see what's possible once apps, retailers and content are more seamlessly integrated in the future.
