Once interviews were only ever a tool for the beginning of an employees time with a company. Then exit interviews became more widely used, to help both parties share their experience of working together, to help going forward. Now stay interviews are becoming more popular, with employees taking stock of their existing situations and considering whether their work/life balances are fulfilled. Employers are keen to retain their best talent, and the best way to ensure that they don't lose staff and that they are meeting employee expectations, is to encourage dialogue. This is where stay interviews are useful. Traditional interviews are for employers to assess prospective employees, but stay interviews flip the dynamic and allow management to learn from their teams, finding out what they are doing right and what would make them better employers. Although the term interview can often make those involved feel nervous, a stay interview is likely to be quite informal, and can certainly be extremely positive for both parties. If both sides are engaged and keen to have this discussion, it shows that they both value the working relationship. Have you been in a stay interview, either as an employer or an employee?
