And that big rig right there has a big job to do at our Point Erin (Herne Bay) Central Interceptor site. It’s started drilling secant pile walls which are kind of like retaining walls. Once those are in place, the 30-metre deep shaft can be safely excavated. Point Erin is the final stop on the 16.2km wastewater tunnel route, and where our massive Tunnel Boring Machine will finish her tunnelling and be lifted piece by piece from the shaft. The Central Interceptor tunnel – New Zealand’s largest bored wastewater tunnel – will be connected to the local wastewater network and help prevent wet weather 💩 overflows into local waterways. That’s got to be a good thing! And, here’s a takeaway fact for you to chew over 😁 the 4.5-metre diameter Central Interceptor tunnel has a gradient of 1:1,000m which means 💩 will flow downhill from Point Erin to our treatment plant in Māngere. Now, that's not to be poo poo'd 👍 Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) #CentralInterceptor #tunnelling #tunneling #tunnels #infrastructure #construction #partnerships #WaterIndustry #wastewater #Auckland

View the full Case Study and Video on our website blog page. Link: https://lnkd.in/eqrFQNaN Silt Saver is excited to share a Case Study on our High Velocity Ditch Check. Installed along the Jefferson Davis Memorial Highway (US-1) in Georgia, the High Velocity Ditch Check represents a major advancement in sediment control for channels. This innovative BMP is designed to control runoff velocity, minimize sediment transport, and help stabilize channels—all without the need for heavy equipment or extensive labor. www.siltsaver.com #bmp #erosioncontrol #siltfence #wattle #rockcheckdam #alternativebmp #infrastructure #construction #heavyequipment #excavator #dirtwork #dirtworld #operators #heavyequipmentlife #sitedevelopment #earthmoving #earthmovers #innovationconstruction #solarenergy #datacenters #sitedevelopment #oem #missioncritical #movingdirt #heavycivilindustry #heavycivilconstruction #bridge #abutment #construction #DOT #progress #heavycivil #facility #facilityconstruction #pipelineconstruction #pipelineindustry #pipewelding #pipeliner #culturematters #culture #midstream #engineering #projectmanagement #safety #safetyculture #permianbasin #delawarebasin #hdpe #hdpepipe #eaglefordshale #construction #constructionindustry #oilandgas #oil #oilandgasjobs #oilandgasindustry #oilfield #oilfieldservices #oilandgasservices #greatplacetowork #keepthefocus #engineer #epcprojects #energy #plantwork

Pipelines are the lifelines of modern infrastructure, transporting oil, gas, water, and other resources across vast distances. However, the vitality of these pipelines can be easily compromised by an often-overlooked component: the soil surrounding them. Geotechnical engineers play a vital role in the design of pipelines, ensuring they can withstand various soil conditions, ground movements, and external forces. In this article, Peyman Tabatabaei discusses the importance of geotechnical engineers in pipeline design and a forensic perspective of common reasons for pipeline failures: https://lnkd.in/eKV8b3aE #HKAExperts #GeotechnicalEngineering #Pipeline

A 36” line, crossing under a lake delivering water to the local Community was deemed unusable. Bringing to bear 80 plus years of subsurface utility installation experience, Gabe's Construction Co., Inc. was consulted for a solution. Partnering with Brierley Associates Corporation and Underground Solutions to deliver a concept to completion project that included: -Proofing the 36” host pipe with 20 ft steel mandrels prior to pullback. -3200 ft of 20” FPVC pulled into the 36” host pipe. -57,000 Gallons of grout with continuous batching -24-7 grout agitation with grid power, reducing carbon footprint. -Successful hydro test. This critical infrastructure will once again deliver the world’s most precious resource to the local community. #trenchless #waterinfrastructure #partnerships #waterutility

Many studies including the American Water Works Association, established clearly that the ease and speed of installation of trenchless technology such as ALTRA10X can go up to 1,500 feet per day per crew – which translate into significant productivity gain and cost savings! Installation Speed – 3X Faster! Major Productivity Gains ✔️ The more efficient installation process of #trenchless technology allows crews to cover larger distances in a shorter period, resulting in improved productivity. Reduced Disruption ✔️ Trenchless methods minimize disruptions to traffic, businesses, and communities because they require less excavation and result in smaller work areas. As a result, there is less need for traffic management, road closures, and environmental mitigation measures, leading to overall cost savings. Cost Savings ✔️ The reduction in excavation, restoration, and traffic management requirements associated with trenchless methods can significantly decrease costs compared to traditional open cut methods. AWWA reports and other industry studies have documented cost savings ranging from 25% to 50% through the use of trenchless techniques. It's important to note that the benefits of trenchless technology have been widely recognized, the actual productivity gains and cost savings may vary based on project-specific conditions, pipe material, diameter, soil conditions, and other factors - but the savings are real! Challenges of micro tunneling for Gas Pipelines under Highways: 1. Geotechnical Variability: - Soil Conditions: Varying soil types can complicate tunnelling and impact performance. - Groundwater: High water tables can threaten stability and require additional dewatering measures. 2. Limited Space and Logistics: - Narrow Right of Way: Confined working spaces restrict equipment mobility and complicate logistics. - **Traffic Management:** Coordination with traffic authorities is essential for safe work zones. 3. Cost Implications: - High Initial Costs: Specialized equipment and planning lead to higher expenses compared to traditional methods. - Unforeseen Costs: Unexpected geological issues can cause cost overruns and delays. 4. Equipment and Technology Limitations: - Wear and Tear: Tough soil conditions can increase maintenance downtime for equipment. - Monitoring Systems: Precision installation requires expensive monitoring technology. 5. Environmental and Regulatory Hurdles: - Permitting Delays: Gaining necessary permits can be time-consuming due to regulatory reviews. - Environmental Impact: Risks remain for disrupting ecosystems, even with minimally invasive methods. 6. Pipeline Integrity: - Installation Challenges: Maintaining pipeline integrity during installation is crucial to prevent leaks. - Post-Installation Testing: Thorough integrity testing is complex and essential. #microtunneling #pipeline #oilandgasindustry #petrochemicalindustry #construction

#ThrowbackThursday The #StefanuttiStocks Coastal Region constructed the new liquid chemical berth 208 (Berth 208) for Transnet Capital Projects (TCP) in 2010. This #marineinfrastructure construction project included the positioning of 72 reinforced #precast concrete beams, which had to straddle adjacent pile caps. The beams, weighing between 65 and 75 ton were placed off a barge and this activity required careful planning in order to optimise safe working conditions. The beams could not be placed if the wind speed exceeded 40km/hr, if wave heights exceeded 0.5m and/or if tidal heights weren’t within a specific window. #ExcellenceInExecution
