This week, an English man (Richard Lane) and an Irish man (Mark Smith) have been in Scotland and Wales – now there’s a joke in there somewhere other than the fact I’ve been nowhere. Basically, Paddy and Rich have been here there and everywhere mostly talking about properly engineering wells for open loop ground source heating projects. I made the really big mistake of asking what ‘properly engineering’ looks like. I wasn’t really interested. And you know that thing that happens when you say something and immediately regret it? Yeah. That happened. Because cue passionate and heated lecture about verticality, discharging and yields. So, just in case any of you Drifters need to know … one of the keys to the success of an open loop installation isn’t to just focus on your abstraction well, but your reinjection well as well (that’s too many wells). It’s about drilling in a straight line, maintaining critical verticality, it’s about the quality of the installation and ensuring care is taken when drilling to maximise yield. But it’s also about the potential for discharge and that you plan carefully to ensure the reinjection well is capable of taking the maximum volume of water back into the aquifer. Really wish I’d never asked – but at least they know what they are talking about, even if it is all…boring… And if you need boreholes planning and drilling perfectly, whether for water, ground source heat or any other reason, you know what to do. https://lnkd.in/eghWhi3M #GSHP #OpenLoop #Geothermal #Boreholes #WaterWells #AbstractionWell #Yawning #DrillingEngineering #GroundSourceHeat

🚧 Directional Boring and Hydro Excavation in San Diego for Electrical Panel Upgrade 🚧 Our team recently completed a project in San Diego using hydro excavation, utility potholing, and directional boring to prepare for an electrical panel upgrade. This job required careful handling around existing underground utilities to ensure safety and accuracy. In the video, we use a hydro vac truck. Hydro excavation is ideal for this task, as it allows us to uncover utilities without damaging them. This process uses high-pressure water and a vacuum to safely expose utilities. In the video you can see why utility potholing was necessary. With multiple existing utilities, potholing helped us confirm their exact locations before we began directional drilling. This step is essential for safety and prevents accidental strikes. For this project, we completed directional boring to install both 4" and 3" conduits, providing the necessary infrastructure for future electrical runs. Directional drilling allowed us to lay these conduits with minimal impact on the surrounding area, supporting the client’s panel upgrade efficiently. 🔗 For more information on our hydro excavation services, visit Devco Hydro Excavation Services https://lnkd.in/eVDmwGv8

Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Method
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) is a trenchless method for installing underground pipelines and cables. It involves drilling a pilot hole, enlarging it with a reamer, and then pulling the pipeline through. HDD is ideal for crossing obstacles like rivers and roads with minimal surface disruption. We invite you to register for our Online Tunnel Engineering course, where you will learn about all tunnel construction methods. I spy with my little eye..... Another successful pig dig! Who can spot the interacting features? ADV Integrity is reviewing ILI Tool reports and selecting repair plan digs for a gathering system in Texas along with the team at MID-AMERICA PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION INC who are running the pigs and completing the digs. This find today is yet another example of why running ILI tools is a good idea, even if your lines aren't required to yet by regulation. Thanks Kyle Whitfield for the confirmation that our work is helping to keep the product in the pipeline. A well designed pig and dig program can ensure that your system can remain in service for may more productive years to come. Give Sarah Graham with Mid-America or myself a shout to learn how our combined teams can be your one stop shop for pipeline integrity management. #midstream #pipelines #oilandgas #integritymanagement #pipelineintegrity

Through tailoring custom-engineered solutions across diverse projects from buoyancy control and pipeline supports, to coating protection, we've tackled everything from the largest pipelines in the Western Hemisphere to the challenging terrain of the Athabasca oil sands. This team in Illinois faced the challenge of installing a 16-inch pipeline under a railway through fractured flagstone, where conventional protection methods like concrete coating or wood lagging weren’t enough to handle the abrasive rock bore. Designed to absorb abrasion and impact through deformation, PipeDefender® engineered pipeline lagging delivered superior protection taking on any damage while fully protecting the pipe as it passed through. Find over 40 projects and case studies on our website for proven pipeline protection https://lnkd.in/dYeZQZp "𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞."
