Estonia has risen to be among the strong innovators in the most recent Innovation Scoreboard! One of the areas that still needs the most improvement is the number of international patents filed by our companies. But, we are seeing the trend gearing upwards at EASi ja KredExi ühendasutus and are working to make sure that this trend proliferates, with high-quality patents and IP strategies that protect the actual businesses of their owners. The number of PCT and EP patent applications filed by Estonian companies is shown below (source: Patsnap, sans Skype and the two largest universities as their portfolios are so large that they skew the statistics).

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo launches the National Strategy for Inclusive Innovation with the announcement "[w]e have an incredible opportunity as a nation to unleash the next generation of American innovation, protect our national security, and preserve our global economic competitiveness. The time is now." How will this program mesh with the USPTO's ongoing hasty issuance of lightly examined patents for watchlisted Chinese entities? 24 day exam for Inspur's Patent No. 11,902,095 entitled Cluster Quorum Method and Apparatus Electronic Device and Readable Storage Medium. 11 day exam for Inspur's Patent No. 11,830,244 entitled Image Recognition Method and Apparatus Based on Systolic Array and medium. 23 day exam for Inspur's Patent No. 11,784,802 entitled Cluster Feature Code Obtainment Method and Apparatus and Electronic Device. 18 day exam for Beijing University of Technology's Patent No. 11,753,308 entitled Method for Separating and Extracting Rare-Earth and Regenerating Rare-Earth Polishing Powder from Rare-Earth Polishing Powder Waste. 29 day exam for Beijing University of Technology's Patent No. 11,758,856 entitled Fully Automated Intelligent Rubber Tapping Robot 5 day exam for Beijing Dajia Internet Information Technology's Patent No. 11,962,789 entitled Simplifications of Cross-Component Linear Model which issued April 15, 2024. ~85 day exam for Beijing University Posts and Telecommunications' Patent No. 11,909,592 entitled Method for Multi-Policy Conflict Avoidance in Autonomous Network. Do under-represented US inventors, entrepreneurs and innovation leaders receive this type of favorable treatment from the USPTO? If America's Innovation Agency really wanted to "protect our national security, and preserve our global economic competitiveness," Director Kathi Vidal, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property might take a closer look at these patents arising from first action allowances before affixing her name beneath the USPTO seal. https://lnkd.in/g9hQHsUe #USPTO, #china, #CNIPA, #natsec, #Inspur, #Beijing, #IP, #IT, #patent, #diversity, #inclusion, #DEI, #pentagon, #military, #defense

Fostering Innovation: The Role of IP Rights in Academia and Research Intellectual Property (IP) rights play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic research and commercial success. For universities and research institutions, these rights are key to transforming innovative ideas and discoveries into viable commercial opportunities. The protection offered by IP rights encourages researchers and academics to develop new technologies, pharmaceuticals, and other innovations. It provides a framework where these inventions can be safely shared with the business community, potentially leading to product development, commercialization, and ultimately, societal benefit. Moreover, IP rights are essential in fostering partnerships between academia and industry. They provide a legal basis for collaboration, ensuring that the contributions of each party are recognized and rewarded. This not only benefits the institutions involved but also contributes to the broader economy by bringing cutting-edge research to the market. In essence, IP rights are not just legal tools; they are catalysts for innovation and economic growth, enabling research institutions to play a pivotal role in the global innovation landscape. https://lnkd.in/eutpDZ_G
