Remember augmented reality? AR doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Maybe because there always seems to be another technology like AI or virtual reality overshadowing it. But AR is alive and well, growing from 70 million U.S. users in 2020 to 101 million in 2025, a growth trajectory that easily surpasses VR adoption. AR is a more accessible branding opportunity for marketers than VR. The interface is built into a smartphone, requiring no additional equipment for someone to wear. As with any technology, AR is a catalyst for keeping your brand fresh and relevant and for changing the way people perceive and interact with your products, services and experiences. Retailers such as IKEA have used AR to improve their customer experience by enabling shoppers to envision products in their homes. This not only enhances the shopping experience by making it more interactive and personalized but also shifts the perception of a retail brand from a traditional in-store experience to a customer-centric, forward-thinking, omni-channel experience.
