ICYMI: Unlocking the Potential of Regional Airports in the United States Through Technology: Most Americans – about 90% – have a regional airport on their doorstep, or at least a 30-minute drive away. So, it makes sense to fly from regional hubs closer to home. And yet, the United States, along with Europe and the United Kingdom, is seeing a decline in air traffic from regional airports. I’m in Strasbourg for the European Parliament Plenary, which takes place there once a month. I participated in a debate on the Single European Sky initiative. And today, the Parliament and the Council confirmed their agreement, overhauling legislation dating back 15 years. But what is it exactly? The Single European Sky initiative seeks to make our airspace more efficient and, by extension, create more sustainable flight paths across Europe. Europe is a very densely populated continent and the airspace is suffering from fragmentation resulting in many flights delayed and cancelled. In practice, what we are adopting today is about better managing our airspace and improve the way airlines fly across Europe. In other words, it will help reduce the current congestion and suboptimal flight routes in our skies. Every second flight was delayed this summer. Sometimes this was due to severe weather conditions. But many delays were also the consequence of the overcrowding of our airspace. Flights often have to be re-routed; planes need to wait in the airport before taking off; or they fly at sub-optimal levels. All of this is annoying for passengers, it is an extra cost for all of us as we burn more fuel and emit more CO2 emissions unnecessarily. All of this could be fixed by improving the way we manage air traffic today. The reform adopted today is about better flight planning, improved management and regulation. We introduce incentives for the air navigation service providers to seek efficiency gains using more advanced technologies. This should also bring innovative services into the sector. These rules also take into account the aviation sector carbon footprint, contributing to the fight against climate change. Airlines emitting less CO2 emissions will pay reduced fees for using our skies, giving another boost to innovation and the introduction of cleaner fuels in this sector and more efficient aircrafts. We are also adapting our rules to a new reality in our skies: drones sharing our airspace. However, we should not hide the reality: this is not where we initially planned to land ten years ago. Tomorrow’s challenges in air traffic will not be fully addressed by this reform. But this is where the legislators have met. This is not perfect, but the final agreement is definitely a step forward to improve the management and efficiency of the European airspace in the next years. It is high time we deliver on this much awaited reform. Passengers, airlines and the climate would not understand we miss this plane.

Empowering Government Agencies with Actionable Data Insights ✈️ Aviation Data Solutions Expert ✈️ Elevating Operational Efficiencies
The security-line was buuuuuuusy at Portland International Airport which is a wonderful sign for travel demand, with early flights to destinations including John F. Kennedy International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Port of Seattle, Los Angeles International Airport. Wanting to look into the increase of air traffic which is one of the FAA’s top 5 2024 trends, and how that’s impacting the performance of flights, including analyzing what could have impacted that aircraft for it to deviate from its flight-path? Cirium’s airline schedules, access to flight-plan data, flight-status, satelitte flight tracking and NOTAM tunneling can help bring that story to life, (as Peter Falk did for Fred Savage in 1987) ✈️ Cirium’s aviation data-sets: https://lnkd.in/gFeaa-UW #management #innovative #technology #creative

Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) is a rapidly evolving field encompassing a range of technologies that offer the potential for safe, sustainable, affordable, and accessible aviation transportation. Experts expect AAM to apply to three main application categories: Regional Air Mobility (RAM), Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and Low Altitude Mobility (LAM). Since West Virginia is predominately rural, experts expect the state will benefit most from RAM and LAM: ▪️ RAM - New technologies that bring "convenience, speed, and safety" to interregional travel in the U.S. by leveraging underutilized airports. ▪️ LAM - Uncrewed aircraft that generally fly below 400 ft, used to improve speed and logistics of ground delivery, access to rural and underserved areas, and the safety of inspection and monitoring services. Learn how West Virginia will benefit from these exciting new technologies here: https://lnkd.in/gWXY4MxW

33,680 daily flights ✈️ across the European aviation network in Week 33 (12-18.08), ▼1% vs Week 32 - but ⬆️4.2% vs the same period in 2023. That's typical for mid-August & also reflects the public holiday in many countries on Thu 15.08. Network traffic for August up to the 18th was at 98% of 2019 levels, close to our latest base STATFOR forecast (97%) – but at State level, the situation is more diverse, with some ACCs in the South-East axis experiencing traffic growth well beyond that. Year-to-date global traffic? 95% of 2019, ⬆️5% vs 2023. ⛈️ Convective weather resulted in significant delays across the week (3.5 minutes/flight, on average) – notably at Palma on Wednesday to Friday, triggering some diversions & cancellations. For July, around €1 billion in en-route air navigation charges were billed, ⬆️8% vs 2023. Read our latest #EuropeanAviationOverview 👇 https://lnkd.in/e9YbFKrK
