33,680 daily flights ✈️ across the European aviation network in Week 33 (12-18.08), ▼1% vs Week 32 - but ⬆️4.2% vs the same period in 2023. That's typical for mid-August & also reflects the public holiday in many countries on Thu 15.08. Network traffic for August up to the 18th was at 98% of 2019 levels, close to our latest base STATFOR forecast (97%) – but at State level, the situation is more diverse, with some ACCs in the South-East axis experiencing traffic growth well beyond that. Year-to-date global traffic? 95% of 2019, ⬆️5% vs 2023. ⛈️ Convective weather resulted in significant delays across the week (3.5 minutes/flight, on average) – notably at Palma on Wednesday to Friday, triggering some diversions & cancellations. For July, around €1 billion in en-route air navigation charges were billed, ⬆️8% vs 2023. Read our latest #EuropeanAviationOverview 👇 https://lnkd.in/e9YbFKrK

There is change in the air - and it looks like it is here to stay. The average capacity per flight is increasing at a faster rate than the industry has ever seen before. Based on simple calculations, we are back to 2019 levels of #airline capacity, but the number of scheduled flights remains 5% below previous levels, which means the average capacity per flight is increasing! What factors are contributing to this significant change? John Grant's latest blog takes a look: https://lnkd.in/e9gYGhQN

Eurocontrol’s Performance Review Report (PRR) has revealed a troubling decline in Europe's airspace performance for 2023. With over 25% of flights arriving more than 15 minutes late and en-route Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) delays reaching 18.1 million minutes, the impact on airlines and passengers has been significant. As we approach the peak summer period, the need for a rethink on how Europe’s airspace is managed has never been more critical. ✈️ You can read our full reaction ➡ https://lnkd.in/eQ_H-irr #airspace #flyingforourfuture

✈️ Is there a future for regional aviation in the US? Like everywhere across the globe, regional aviation provides a vital bridge for communities in the United States, connecting them to economic opportunities, major education and healthcare facilities, and loved ones. There are over 3,200 public airports nationwide, with over 500 classified as regional airports, serving smaller communities. The air connectivity provided to these communities generates $134 billion in economic activity annually. These regional airports directly create employment opportunities for 1 million individuals, contributing $36 billion in wages. And yet, regional air connectivity in the U.S. has been steadily eroding over the past 20 years, leaving small communities with limited, time-consuming, less responsible travel options. 🔗 Curious to learn more about how ATR turboprops could revitalise air connectivity in the US? https://lnkd.in/ecPzRHAZ #Aviation #RegionalAviation #ATR #EconomicDevelopment #Transportation #US

The latest European Aviation Overview, covering Week 39 (23-29.09), shows traffic continuing to decline slowly as anticipated, as the summer schedules come to an end. ✈ However, arrival punctuality (68.1% arriving within 15 mins of scheduled arrival time) remains worse than last year (73.4%), and much lower than pre-pandemic 2019 (78.4%). En-route ATFM delays were 54% up on 2023, with capacity and staffing the main causes. Key facts include: 📌 33,128 average daily flights: +4% vs 2023, -1.3% vs Week 38 📌 Year-to-date traffic at 96% of 2019, +5% vs last year 📌 En-route ATFM delays of 2.18 minutes/flight (72.1K daily delay minutes), +9% vs Week 38, +54% vs 2023 📌 66% of all en-route ATFM delays were caused by ATC capacity/staffing, followed by convective weather (21%) 📌 68.1% arrival punctuality.
