We want to welcome Preservation of Affordable Housing (POAH) as one of our valued Bronze sposors for the 2024 program year. As a nonprofit developer, owner, and operator of nearly 13,000 affordable homes across twelve states and the District of Columbia, POAH is dedicated to preserving, creating, and sustaining affordable, healthy homes. With a focus on economic security, racial equity, and access to opportunity, POAH specializes in preserving existing affordable housing, new construction, and mixed-income and mixed-use redevelopments. We’re honored to have POAH’s support as we continue to empower Black real estate professionals and build stronger, more inclusive communities. #AAREP2024 #POAH #BronzeSponsor #AffordableHousing #CommunityEmpowerment #RealEstateLeadership

I'm a big advocate for building new housing. I've developed housing on church land in the past and I have a number of projects in the pipeline currently. Some of the churches in our RootedGood Good Futures Accelerator are developing affordable housing as a way to serve their community. BUT developing housing on church land is not a magic solution. It is far from easy. It isn't always the best idea for use of church land. And most of all, it is not the responsibility of churches alone to solve our nation's affordable housing crisis. This Bloomberg article takes a good look at some of the challenges that limit the extent to which churches can address affordable housing using their land. #goneforgood #goodfutures #affordablehousing #propertydevelopment

The only successful tool I have seen churches use to circumvent local zoning, and landmark laws is to employee freedom of religion to assert their rights to carry out their mission while thwarting NIMBY friction. “Churches sometimes have it in their mind that they can build new space for themselves, build affordable housing and generate income,” said Mark Elsdon, cofounder of RootedGood, a Wisconsin-based organization that helps faith-based groups rethink their real estate resources. “Very often, you’re lucky to get one of those. Two would be a huge win. But all three?” “What’s holding up the church-to-housing pipeline? Bluntly, even God’s house has to abide by humankind’s zoning laws. And as more congregations study the idea of converting property, the unique challenges of such projects have become apparent, from lining up financing to overcoming the architectural incompatibility of the buildings themselves.” Why Turning Churches Into Housing Is So Hard https://lnkd.in/gnNdJrmA

It's official! The Trust for Civic Life has launched! An exciting day for folks building civic infrastructure, particularly in rural communities. From Hollie Russon Gilman, Ph.D.: The Trust is a new philanthropic collaborative and learning network with a simple mission: support local efforts that bring residents together to solve challenges they decide are most critical for their community to thrive. In times of polarization, we believe this is one critical step in the process of rebuilding trust in each other and forging a deeper democracy. https://lnkd.in/gQwUbPPH #democracy

As a Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund), we are able to partner with banks to provide capital not only to for-profit businesses, but also to nonprofit agencies. This video from Pinnacle Financial Partners shows an example of the positive impacts these partnerships can have upon a community. #banking #communitybanking #cdfi #economicdevelopment
We want to thank Pinnacle Financial Partners (PNFP) for supporting us in our role as a Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) . As a CDFI, our mission goals include promoting community development, and one of the ways to accomplish this is by providing capital to programs that positively impact their local community. In our hometown, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, is one of those programs. Through our partnership with PNFP, we were able to provide capital to support the expansion of this program’s facility. The completed renovation provides a learning lab, training room, an outdoor space for program participants, and more offices to accommodate a growing staff. #CDFI #banking #communitydevelopment #nonprofit #economicdevelopment

“Event spaces continue to be a barrier for many communities of color so to be able to convene ourselves in a space that was very accepting, and where we felt comfortable, was a beautiful experience.” Liaiga-Anoa'i of the Pacific Islander Community Partnership This spring, we've been honored to host incredible cultural performances by the Pacific Islander Community Partnership, Noorani Dance and Stir Fry Stories, funded by our partner Redwood City Parks and Arts Foundation. Using dance, poetry and powerful conversations, they shared stories of identity, resilience, and activism, enriching our understanding of AANHPI communities. San Mateo County is our home, and we are proud to offer the Community Space for nonprofits in our region to center inclusivity, community-building and learning. #AANHPI #AAPI #community #CulturalCelebration #RedwoodCity

The April issue of FOCUS Magazine highlights Cinnaire. For over 30 years, the community development financial organization has made high-impact investments and given loans to developers and nonprofits, focusing specifically on economically and racially marginalized communities that too often get passed over for capital. A balanced approach to homelessness is essential. Collaborating with law enforcement, outreach teams, businesses, philanthropic organizations, cities, counties, and faith-based organizations is crucial to success. In my decade of experience in this field, I have been fortunate to work in cities with leaders who embrace "out-of-the-box" thinking. This innovative approach has enabled our teams to achieve long-lasting results and successes. 4o

Have you heard about our unique Matching Fund model and how it works to empower communities? Through the Matching Fund model, also known as Pamoja4 Change, KCDF partners with communities through CBOs and CSOs to actualize their ideas for community development. Communities raise 50% of their project costs (in-cash or in-kind), while KCDF matches the other 50%, hence the name, Matching Fund. This model develops community ownership in projects and helps them to thrive and become self-sustaining.
