Since 1970, we've lost a third of the world's freshwater ecosystems. That’s why protecting these treasures is crucial for building a water-resilient Europe. At TNC, we believe that effective river protection begins with empowering local communities and fostering a deep connection between people and nature. Through the United for Rivers initiative, we’re leading a collaborative effort across the Western Balkans to protect 13 rivers, covering 400 kilometres of breath-taking natural beauty and biodiversity. As ambassadors of WaterWise EU we want to inspire other regions facing similar environmental challenges to see water differently. United for Rivers is more than just environmental protection; it’s about connecting communities with nature, ensuring lasting, sustainable conservation. State parks aren’t just recreational spaces; they are vital ecosystems that safeguard Florida’s biodiversity, manage stormwater, and store carbon. The proposed plan threatens to replace these irreplaceable natural services with golf courses—green, yes, but devoid of the environmental benefits that true natural areas provide. And let’s not forget the fertilizer these courses will demand, worsening our blue-green algae and red tide issues. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is offering the public to fight . But they’re only giving us 8 days notice. If they truly believed in protecting our parks, wouldn’t they want more voices at the table? Today is International Day of the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. World Mangrove Day is annually observed for the following purposes: 1. to raise awareness of the importance of mangrove ecosystems as a unique, special, and vulnerable ecosystem, 2. to promote solutions for their sustainable management, conservation, and uses. Mangroves are at high risk of being destroyed due to human activities, and collective action is urgently needed to combat it. According to the Global Mangrove Alliance, an estimated 67% of mangroves have been lost or degraded, and an additional 1% is lost annually. Overall, mangroves are disappearing 3 to 5 times faster than global forest losses. Thus, it is important to protect or conserve the mangrove ecosystem. This year’s theme is - “raising awareness about mangroves and their importance as self-sustaining ecosystems.” #passionforenvironment #environment #environmentalprotection #environmentconservation

As part of this initiative, the foundation has established Sparrow House Boxes and provided water facilities for birds. These efforts are aimed at helping the sparrow population flourish, addressing the decline in their numbers due to urbanization and habitat loss. To date, the Aval Foundation has successfully developed and installed 500 Sparrow House Boxes. This initiative has significantly contributed to the resurgence of sparrows in the region, offering them safe nesting spaces and a reliable water source.
