The energy transformation bears enormous promise for industrialization, job creation and economic development. Countries of the Southern Mediterranean are blessed with high quality clean energy resources and are on pole position to lead. However, this requires massive mobilization of physical, intellectual and financial resources and only a joined-up approach between governments and private sector will get us there on time. For that reason, the MED•GEM Network invited industry to form an advisory board to help us craft pathways to get us where we need to go.
🎯 With the title « Empowering Tomorrow: Charting the Future of Renewable Energies & Green Hydrogen in the Mediterranean Region », the MED-GEM’s Industry Advisory Board (IAB) was launched on December 20, 2023, at Maison Grand Place, Brussels. 🤝The IAB inaugural meeting gathered Chambers of industries, Renewable Energy Unions, Energy Industry Associations and Confederations, Power-To-X and Green hydrogen clusters from both shores of the Mediterranean, National Focal Points and members of the Steering Committee of MED-GEM, Officers and Managers from DG NEAR and DG ENER, IFIs with presentations from the OECD and World Bank partners. 🔍 The IAB provided crucial insights into priority areas and collaborative actions for the sustainable growth of the GEM industry across partner countries : ▪️ Infrastructure for Efficiency ▪️ Financing and Cost of Capital ▪️ Certification (Import/Export with EU) ▪️ HR Element – Jobs, Skills, and Capacity Building ▪️ Local Value Creation and Nearshoring ▪️ Policies (Permitting/Land) ▪️ Zones/Valleys (Structured Approach) ▪️ Business Models – Off-Takers ▪️ Export Potential and Foreign Exchange Effects ▪️ Local Use Potential and Import. 🎬 Watch the video with Arabic Subtitles https://lnkd.in/d8Bhk8eZ 💬 Read the full report https://lnkd.in/daJcRb2N 📸 Look at the full Album https://lnkd.in/dpY6uUgP #MEDGEMNetwork #EUGreenDeal #GreenHydrogen #RenewableHydrogen #REPowerEU #FitFor55 #CBAM #NetZeroIndustryAct #StrongerTogether 🇪🇺 MED-GEM Network is a Technical Assistance initiative funded by the European Commission European Union Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH International Services. #Industry | European industry faces major challenges today: it must transform in the next decade to align with the European Green Deal objectives; it needs to define and better integrate the strategic autonomy objective; it must agree and pursue policies for its long-term competitiveness. 🔸 How to promote clean manufacturing in global markets? This is what we are discussing today at a conference in #Brussels organized by leading think tanks from three countries: IDDRI (France), Agora Industry (Germany) and Forum Energii (Poland). Forum president Joanna Pandera PhD points out that the starting point for industrial transformation is different in each European country. 🔸 Learn more about our event! ▶ https://lnkd.in/ggEYp9Fu

Promoting excellent opportunities of Finnish hydrogen economy and speaking at a few panel discussions together with several one to one meetings at #WorldHydrogen2024 Key takeaways from the summit: - Globally blue carbon is still the way to reduce carbon emissions, only in Europe green hydrogen is playing a substantial role - Demand is crucial for green hydrogen projects to materialize and is existing now only for niche customers - Lots of plans and intentions, but still too few investments - Finland should not be ashamed of its position, but must continue the ”can do” -path to stay in the hard competition
Thanks to Business Finland for hosting an interesting panel discussion on the topic of hydrogen startup stories at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition in Rotterdam. Herkko Plit, Matt Hammond and I talked about growth plans and Finland’s position in the global hydrogen game. Thanks to Achmed Junusov for moderating. Rotterdam was fun! But now it’s almost time to head back to Finland because I miss my desk at Hycamite TCD Technologies 🩵

"The French strategy for hydrogen includes few ambitions at the international level beyond scientific and technological cooperation within the European Union. The political priority is to develop a domestic industry sized to meet national demand, which is seen as a more secure sourcing strategy than relying on imports." Research Institute for Sustainability (RIFS) will soon be publishing a book about the geopolitics of hydrogen. In collaboration with RIFS, we are publishing a preview of a chapter of this book, written by Ines Bouacida: "The French Hydrogen Strategy: Focusing on Domestic Hydrogen Production to Decarbonise Industry and Mobility". 👇
