Anyone who has experienced the dementia journey via a loved one (like me) or otherwise knows the devastation and will appreciate what we're solving for and why this matters. Status quo care typically ends at diagnosis leaving patients and their care partners to their own devices to figure out what to do. Through our Mayo Clinic partnership, we've pioneered the first clinically validated early intervention for patients with MCI and early dementia and their care partners. Coupled with our CMS GUIDE program we can now precision manage and support patients/care partners via #virtualcare throughout this complicated journey - solving access challenges and completely changing the disease process trajectory and patient/care partner experience while improving every measure of outcome. Thank you Nuvance Health for your vision and partnership to support the 100,000+ people in the communities you serve who can now count on your innovative leadership to bring them a unique and game-changing solution for this condition. Researchers from Verily, Duke University, and Stanford University demonstrate the potential for use of Verily’s Study Watch to help identify patients at risk for heart failure (HF). The study, published in the Journal of Cardiac Failure, investigates the association of digital walking measures with HF progression. “The study proves that there is more to walking than the number of steps. It shows that participants with subclinical heart failure had lower walking cadence and pace when compared to healthy or at risk individuals,” said Francois Haddad, MD, Clinical Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford Medicine. Last week, The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) gathered research scientists, advocates, and other experts to discuss persistent Lyme disease, including better ways to diagnose and treat it. Rhisa Parera (IG: @negraconlyme), a 34-year-old Lyme patient and advocate who wrote, directed, and produced the short film “Your Labs Are Normal,” gave the keynote address, sharing her personal experiences with Lyme. Rhisa developed knee, hip, and spine pain when she was just 7 years old. As a young adult, she suffered from gastrointestinal issues and neurological problems that eventually led to depression and suicidal thoughts. It took almost 20 years for Rhisa to get her Lyme disease diagnosis, but that was just the beginning. Finding a Lyme doctor who could help and undergoing costly and intense treatment was a major challenge. And Rhisa faced additional hurdles to care as a Black woman who most doctors dismissed. Rhisa highlights the need for more education and better medical training for doctors in her address. With 50% of cavernoma patients having epilepsy, we’re pleased to announce a new treatment called Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT). 🙌👏 LITT is available at King’s College Hospital and The Walton Centre for patients with Cavernoma Related Epilepsy (CRE) that is resistant to medication. LITT works by inserting a fiber optic laser into the skull to heat and coagulate the epilepsy-causing brain tissue at 50–90°C (122-194°F). Clinicians navigate through the brain using an MRI scanner to avoid nearby structures that need to be protected. If you have intractable CRE and would like to be considered for this treatment, speak to your neurologist or neurosurgeon. If they think you might be eligible and after discussing the risks you feel comfortable to proceed, then your clinician can refer you. Self-referral is not possible. For more information about LITT use the following link: 👇 https://lnkd.in/eKmp9F93 #litt #laserinterstitialthermaltherapy #cavernomarelatedepilepsy #intractableepilepsy
