Where are our Apprentices? Again this question surfaces in another state. Yesterday I had the privilege of visiting William Angliss and sitting on the Cookery Industry Advisory Board Group Meeting on behalf of Ovolo Hotels alongside program leaders, talented owners, and incredible chefs from the industry. Our collaboration aims to ensure relevant teaching and placements, as well as provide advice on new skills and knowledge by the graduates. Our collective concern that dominated the conversation is the alarming decline in apprenticeships and school leavers pursuing careers as chefs and also within hospitality & tourism , not only in Victoria, NSW but across every other state in Australia. This decline is a pressing issue that demands our attention as leaders in the hospitality industry. We all know that the future of our industry relies on a fresh influx of talent and a vibrant pool of skilled individuals ready to embrace the challenges of tomorrow. Recent published statistics have highlighted the urgency of the situation. How do we together, turn the tide and create an enticing environment for young Australians to pursue apprenticeships and rewarding hospitality careers. What’s the ACTION PLAN, and how can we contribute? I don't have all the answers, but I know that collaboration is the absolute key here and with a sense of urgency. There needs to be more focus on Integrating vocational training, apprenticeships into school curricula, expanding vocational course offerings and programmes that targets & provides insights & guidance to school leavers, along with school career counsellors whilst we as industry and educational providers continue to develop comprehensive campaigns showcasing our sectors diverse, fabulous, never boring opportunities. It is crucial that we, as a united industry, continue to speak up, support, and raise questions regarding government initiatives. By doing so, we can all work together to ensure that the numbers for enrolments across Australia, pivot and start trending in a positive direction. It is important that we all do our part for the younger generation by actively engaging and advocating for their future in the hospitality industry. #apprentice #hospitalitycareers #generalmanagers #hotel #hotelcareers #futureleaders #advocatechange #closingthegap #hospitality #nswtourism #victourism Jacinta Allan AHA (Vic) #chef Girish Jhunjhnuwala Ian Curley Grant Flack Jason Camillo Luke Headon Daniel Briggs Steve Harry Caterina Borsato Danette Morrison Marlena Richards, Peter Cox, Mark Weatherley Oliver Buddrick Ryan Tuckerman Stephen Howard Amanda Cottome Wayne Taranto Yawen Cui 崔雅文, CA Shivang Jhunjhnuwala Matthew Murray Nicholas Wright James Clark MIH Roberto Russo MIH Gitta Margaretha Pamella Tomio Dave Baswal Gabriel Polias

So thrilled to be able to partake in this Cookery Industry Advisory board discussion with these industry icons at William Angliss Institute. There certainly is some issues at the moment within the Hospitality Industry that need attention and while the rest of the industries out there get greater funding and assistance, junior culinary entrants and apprentices continue to struggle with the removal of some key pillars. #apprentice #hospitality #nextgeneration #helpneeded #bepartofthesolution

I am thrilled to announce that Virginia has officially received approval for three culinary apprenticeship programs, thanks to a partnership with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) and Virginia Works. This is a huge step forward in providing high-quality, hands-on career pathways for individuals interested in the hospitality sector. These programs will provide a unique opportunity for apprentices to gain valuable skills, earn while they learn, and build a solid foundation for a successful career in hospitality. With the support of Virginia Works and the NRAEF, we are empowering the next generation of hospitality professionals and helping to fill critical workforce gaps across the state. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact these programs will have on the industry and the community. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to expand training opportunities and niche markets for apprenticeship programs. Special thanks to Jim Wilson who started Virginia on this journey to apprenticeships. Also to Mindy Larson Crystal and Michael Alley, MPA who have been instrumental in moving this forward.

Fantastic apprenticeship opportunities. Apprenticeships are a positive destination and a fantastic way to start a meaningful career. University and College are not for everyone. With an apprenticeship, you’re earning a wage, achieving a qualification, gaining real work experience - that’s CV worthy…and not accruing student debt.
School's almost out & your child's future is calling! Hospitality Apprenticeship North East offer a great alternative to university for leavers that still haven’t quite figured out what they want to do yet: https://loom.ly/aztOu20 #Hospitality #HospitalityIndustry #SchoolLeaversNE

Alberta is investing more in skilled-trades apprenticeships in an attempt to meet the demand for housing. Alberta has prioritized trade apprenticeships that lead to Red Seal certifications — a nationally recognized designation that enables individuals to work outside of the province in which they were trained. But many of the jobs on work sites do not require apprenticeship-level training. “Not everybody needs to be a Red Seal trade,” says Shane Wenzel 🏘️, a Calgary-based home builder who has worked in the construction industry for nearly 40 years. “[On]e of the biggest deterrents to that younger age group especially is the length of time it takes to get that [certification], which is roughly four years.” Read more from Samuel Forster: https://lnkd.in/eGvvjUKe
