Thinking about the future: Going beyond high watchmaking. "Knowledge is the most precious asset of humanity, even though human beings often forget that. Any initiative whose goal is the preservation and sharing of this knowledge must be celebrated – especially when we are talking about two centennial institutions of the calibre of Vacheron Constantin and the Metropolitan Museum of Art." ____ #essentialalgarve #art #culture #globalart #knowledge #MetropolitanMuseumArt #VacheronConstantin #LouvreMuseum (Co-financiamento: Cresc Algarve 2020, Portugal 2020 e União Europeia através do Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional) #openmediagroup

Of course this art is crazy. What art is not crazy? When it's not crazy it's not art. Jean Dubuffet Obviously by 1945 the world was also crazy and there were many who questioned the processes and genealogies of creators authenticated as artists. If we listen to Dubuffet, as to anyone else who has arguments to define concepts based on experiences and observations, we arrive at one of the possible questions, we can all be creators of art: Social art, urban art in the street or in galleries? Where to find it? Although perhaps the question is where we can experience the sensation/reflection/experience that art awakens in us. As a game for the intellect, for our own existence... we keep asking ourselves and questioning the evolution or involution that the manifestations (with the tools incorporated in this era, pose us). #artbrut #landart #urbanart https://lnkd.in/ditTEWiB and if you have time check this (https://lnkd.in/d9rnqXkM)

My latest article, about the new exhibition at Galeria Municipal do Porto 🍂 The gallery has held an exciting position in Porto's cultural scene, determined to investigate and expose the relationship between the city and its natural environment, through contemporary art. "On a journey between mythology and tradition, rurality and creativity, I felt this exhibition as a true love letter to our North. After some time in the gallery, the experience becomes truly magical, a foretaste of how these montains, rivers, forests and creatures are responding to the 'reconstruction of climates, identities, mythologies and narratives.'” Read it here:

The Space in Between Conde Contemporary, 2024 “The Space in Between,” delves into the complex interplay of returning and belonging, capturing the essence of navigating between the past and the present. This exhibition explores the nuanced experience of coming back to familiar shores after a period of separation, where home is both a sanctuary and a landscape altered by time. At the heart of this exploration lies the metaphor of the silver cord—a luminous thread connecting our soul to our body, ensuring that even as we traverse spiritual or geographical distances, we remain tethered to our essence and origins. This cord symbolizes the enduring link between our place of birth and our chosen home, a bridge that holds us in a continuous state of connection despite physical separation As we traverse this liminal space, we confront the bittersweet tension of returning to a place that once held our deepest attachments but now appears both intimate and distant. The notion of home is redefined, revealing itself as a space that exists in perpetual transition. Here, we embrace the duality of existence—rooted in the past, yet perpetually evolving into the future. Much like the phenomena of quantum entanglement, where particles remain irrevocably connected across vast distances, the places of our birth and our chosen homes are bound in an invisible embrace, their connection transcending mere spatial separation. “The Space in Between” invites us to explore how we are both anchored and adrift, our hearts caught in the perpetual tug of dual belonging. This exhibition is a meditation on the beauty and complexity of existing in two spaces at once—a contemplation of how our memories and aspirations shape the continuum of our lives, eternally intertwined across time and space. #thespaceinbetween #condecontemporary #artinmiami #artexhibition #rubentorresllorca #portocarrero #ciroquintana #ruthowens #courtneyegan #andresconde #latinamericanart #americanart #newmedia #painting #sculpture #coralgables

Artificial Rome #INTERPLAY is a generative installation in the heart of the Humboldt Museum in Berlin. Artificial Rome is the mastermind behind INTERPLAY in Berlin, and is celebrated for our groundbreaking approach to art. Through this daring artistic endeavours, INTERPLAY delves into the exploration of human perception, pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Artificial Rome and Humboldt Museum, envisions a revolutionary transformation of the museum experience. We created a generative installation within the atrium of the Humboldt Forum in Berlin. The seventeen-metre-tall artwork, displayed on a towering screen sculpture spans across three floors of the museum. The permanent installation is visible from every angle inside the atrium. The frames change so that they appear differently at any given time. This means that visitors can experience an ever-changing simulation of the elements every time they pass through the atrium. More than 80 model pagodas – hand-crafted at a Jesuit-run orphanage workshop in Shanghai and exported to a 1915 international exposition in San Francisco – are now part of Singapore's National Collection. And, of course, they got the star treatment since arriving last year. It was my first time visiting the Heritage Conservation Centre, an unassuming, silver-shelled facility that houses Singapore's prized artefacts and artworks. In this labyrinthine building tucked away on Jurong Port Road, gloved conservators get up close to artefacts – some centuries-old – and do the hands-on work of readying these cultural objects for the public eye. These 84 pagoda models will be part of a year-long exhibition, Pagoda Odyssey 1915: From Shanghai To San Francisco, opening at the ACM (Asian Civilisations Museum) on May 31. In March, I went behind-the-scenes with lead conservator Leon Sim to learn how his team of seven spent six months conserving these century-old artefacts that reveal an interesting story about China-United States exchange, the glamour of the international expo format as well as the marvel of this Chinese architectural form. Another interesting cross-cultural point, which I did not mention in the story, is that the architectural form of the pagoda (which often have a religious function, often Buddhist, sometimes Taoist) was inspired by the South Asian hemispherical architectural form of the stupa. So these objects – along with the spread of Buddhism (Happy Vesak Day by the way!) – can tell a fascinating global story via Asia, which has been at the core of some of the most recent shows at the ACM. The public life of such cultural artefacts are often visible and celebrated when they go on exhibition, but they also have a curious "private life" that are privy to a small group of people – conservators being one such group. If you liked this story, I'd love to learn more about what you would like to learn about art and heritage conservation! There might be more of such stories coming your way. #art #singapore #conservation #heritage #museums #pagodas Read here:

www.nineoclock.ro: “Connecting Worlds”, the new fine art exhibition proposed by WIN Gallery, is a tribute to the multitude of encounters between worlds and cultures, by Mioara Iofciulescu “Connecting Worlds” is centered around the process of acquiring knowledge, making discoveries and accommodating to novelty. It is a constant in our lives, equally beautiful and disquieting. We chose this subject because we are traversing a period when science is making extraordinary leaps, at once promising and challenging. Discovering inner and outer worlds entails an inquisitive spirit, the courage to delve into the unknown and the willingness to accept change as inevitable. To become aware of oneself and one’s surroundings, fascination and doubt must walk hand in hand, shaping the journey. Along this process, connections between people, cultures and mindsets flourish, enabling new ways of seeing and thinking. Introspection, rites of passage, symbols and travels are just a few among the many vehicles for exploration”, Irina Stoenescu, Chairlady of WIN Gallery, stated. 🚨 UPCOMING EXHIBITION 🚨 We’re incredibly excited to announce The Art of Subversion. This first-of-its-kind exhibition will feature a provocative blend of street art, tattoo-inspired art, and functional glass art. The term ‘subversion’ is defined as “the undermining of the power and authority of an established system or institution.” With that, the goal is to initiate a broader conversation about how artwork is understood in our contemporary world. For decades, street art was seen as no more than vandalism, and only recently has it gained recognition for its cultural value. Similarly, while the traditional medium of tattoo art has been around for centuries, it has only been in the last few years that our society has shaken the stigma associated with the art form. The same cannot exactly be said for functional glass art, more simply known as ‘sm💨king 🅿️ipes’… I mean, I can’t even type the words normally here without getting this post flagged!! As with tattoos, the art of 🅿️ipe making and the medium of glass blowing has a profound history, yet it is an outsider in the art world. We hope this exhibition can help shift our collective perspective of these underrepresented forms of artistic expression. ••• WHEN: Friday, September 13, 5 - 8 PM WHERE: Rehs Contemporary 20 West 55th Street NYC ••• #streetart #tattooart #art #arte #contemporaryart #functionalglass #rehscontemporary #artexhibit #artexhibition #newyorkgallery

Video component of my work AIDA & CLONES Co for Salon Des Étrangers, 60th Biennale Di Venezia. Salon Des Etrangers is a salon-type exhibition devised for the historic 60th Biennale Di Venezia. Inspired by Albert Camus’s classic The Outsider, this exhibition features works of 100 international artists. Surveyed and directed by Jeffro Dziac, Outsiders Lounge is a late Venetian meeting point for ultra-modern existentialists and surrealists to exhibit, debate, perform and observe dramas of current life. With uniform wall works set at A4 size and a 23 second video, like a set of imaginary cards, this exhibition will highlight the absurd and uncanny times we currently inhabit whilst reflecting on the themes of identity, nostalgia, artifice and strangeness in many different forms and media. My bi-componental work for this exhibition continues a series of reflections on the contemporary challenges we all face and the potential outcomes for our future. The artwork mirrors the creeping homogeneity that threatens individuality — where people, once driven by distinct desires, passions, and flaws, now turn to AI at every juncture, becoming mere replicas of one another. The piece poses a crucial question: Will we passively succumb to the absurdity of this situation, walking toward the death of human agency and creativity? Or will we intentionally choose to resist it and preserve our essence as human beings?
