1 in 4 children face going hungry over the summer break when they don't have access to their free meal programs from school. During Achieva's annual company training, our teammates learned about the impact of food insecurity and how the #CerealforSummer program aims to solve it. As a way to symbolize knocking down hunger, employees constructed a giant domino line using over 1000 cereal boxes. There's still time to make a difference! Stop by any Achieva Credit Union branch to donate cereal, granola bars, or oatmeal. All donations collected will go to Feeding Tampa Bay and local food banks surrounding our branches. You can also scan the QR code provided at the end of the 10 Tampa Bay segment for details.

Did you know that instead of purchasing food at retail rates, we collaborate with the California Association of Food Banks, major retailers, USDA government assistance programs, growers, distributors and fellow food banks to secure wholesome food? When you contribute financially, you enable us to offer a greater quantity of nutritious groceries compared to donating store-bought food. 🥑 Thanks to our capacity to harness large-scale food donations, bulk purchasing capabilities, and the dedication of volunteers, every $1 donation empowers us to supply enough food for two meals. Help us fill tables this holiday season and beyond. If we can raise $1,000,000 from our community between now and December 25, The Benificus Foundation will match the amount. Double your impact: https://shfb.online/b9bd77

❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! No one should go to bed hungry, but according to the USDA 34 million people across the country face food insecurity. That’s why all month long, Carolyn and I are doubling your impact by matching up to $10,000 in donations for Feeding America. Normally, every dollar you give can provide at least 2 nutritious meals, but with our match: ☆ $50 donation = 200 meals 🍽️ ☆ $100 donation = 400 meals 🍽️ ☆ $500 donation = 2,000 meals 🍽️ ☆ $1,000 donation = 4,000 meals 🍽️ We're joined by generous leaders like Reid Hoffman, Mike Schroepfer, Gokul Rajaram, and Josh Hannah who are matching donations to local food banks in the #SFBayArea. Together, we aim to raise $200,000 for up to 400,000 healthy meals. Join our #FeedBayArea effort and make a difference, one meal at a time. 🦃 https://lnkd.in/g5yteQ4Z #foodbanks #fundraising

Supporting your local food bank by donating food and other essentials. This winter more people than ever are being driven to food banks and the sharp increase in people needing help is outstripping food donations. Donations are vital to ensure food banks can continue to help everyone referred to them. How to donate food 1. Donate directly to your local food bank. 2. Drop off at collection points in supermarkets across the country. 3. Make a financial donation to your local food bank on their website, so they can buy what they need. 4. Add items to your online supermarket shop (where available) to send directly to the food bank. 5. Host a collection for your local food bank at your school, church or business. Or by hosting a food drive. Items to donate It’s best to check on your local food bank’s website or social media to see which items they need most. In general, the following items are often needed (non-food essentials are also accepted): Food UHT milk Tinned meat (hotdogs, meatballs etc.) Tinned fish Tinned fruit Sponge/rice puddings Coffee (small jars) Long-life juice Pasta sauce Tinned veg (potatoes, carrots, green beans, tomatoes) Tinned meals (spaghetti, chicken or veg curries, chilli) Tinned soup Jam and spreads Non-food items Shower gel Shampoo/conditioner Deodorant Toilet rolls Washing up liquid Laundry detergent pods Sanitary products For more information contact The Trussell Trust or visit their website: https://lnkd.in/eBJeXHHi #donations #hunger #community #foodbanks

So excited for Blackmores Charity Drive this Friday! Can't wait to help these great causes & also promote sustainability & the importance to reuse as much as possible. As a member of the Blackmores Sustainability Committee (& resident hippie!) it is important we are continually driving to align our actions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. On this journey, it has sometimes been hard to see what you can do to make a tangible impact, the link below has been a great help, it is an action list which breaks down the 17 UNSDG into 170 actions anyone at work or at home can achieve. https://lnkd.in/eniq8TpV When comparing our Blackmores Charity Drive against the UNSDG & this Action List it was surprising how many goals it supported! Goal 1 No Poverty Action 2 Donate old clothes or household items to those in need Goal 4 Quality Education Action 40 Participate in an environmental committee at your school or workplace Goal 5 Gender Equality Action 44 Donate to organisations that support female green entrepreneurs Goal 8 Decent Work & Economic Growth Action 79 Advocate for corporate social responsibility Goal 10 Reduce Inequalities Action 94 Help foodbanks and homeless centres to offer nutritious and sustainable food Goal 11 Sustainable Cities & Communities Action 109 Organise or participate in a market & give old things a new life Goal 12 Responsible Consumption & Production Action 112 Reduce, Reuse & Recycle & Action 120 Donate your clothes instead of throwing then away Goal 13 Climate Action Action 126 Organise green initiatives in your workplace Goal 17 Partnerships for the Goals Action 161 Bring sustainable values into your workplace So remember... We don't have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world. Howard Zinn For Angie x

Congress Passes the Food Donation Improvement Act Congress successfully passed legislation, known as the Food Donation Improvement Act, that will curb food waste while reducing food insecurity. Businesses frequently dispose of safe, healthy food out of fear that they will be held liable should a donated product make someone ill. The Food Donation Improvement Act will expand protections for manufacturers, retailers, farmers, and restaurants to encourage donations. It will also make it easier for businesses to donate food directly to those in need. Read more - https://lnkd.in/gWvfrzhb #SustSolutions #janiceneitzel #AnimalWelfareAssessment
