Spent some time watching this 11 years old video, and was so blessed by that. More than a decade later, and many of the things are still very real in today’s philanthropic/altruism/not-for-profit sector. Essentially, he’s talking about the for-profit and not-for profit divide. Essentially, applying 2 different sets of rules in the same game - We are not willing to pay for talents, we are not willing to spend on advertisement, we have very little appetite for risk, we have very little patience until impact is felt, we do not have space for to invest for growth. And he attributed this phenomenon to a strange dichotomy of money used for causes vs money used for all other things including operations. Today, in this part of the world, we begin to see some needle shifting. Community capability trust funds by NCSS looks to build capacity in the SSAs, and lots of government funding funds the overheads so the causes are better served. Yet, the whole notion of fundraising continues to be a point of contention (and suspicion). In the most crude way, someone casually remarked that I’m a “professional beggar”. This is not helped by an entrenched attitude toward the non-profit sector. We continue to advocate, we continue to advance, we continue to evolve and communicate. And hopefully, we will arrive.

Urgent Update: Today, our lives have been shattered by a devastating incident. Warplanes mercilessly targeted the seven-story residential building, "Al-Salam Home 6 Building," which I call my home. After warplanes targeted my apartment in the same building earlier, several months ago. The aftermath is heart-wrenching - the building has been completely destroyed. I had only been living in this building for a year, and now my neighbors and I find ourselves grappling with the harsh reality. Our dreams, the roof over our heads, and our hopes have been demolished in an instant. It feels like everything we have worked for has been torn apart. The impact goes beyond the physical destruction; it carries a heavy emotional toll. We find ourselves burdened with debts and instalments that we were yet to pay, adding to our already overwhelming challenges. This ordeal has left us devastated, helpless, and uncertain about the future. In moments like these, we must come together as a community. HOW DARUL INFAQ STARTED? SERVICE TO HUMANITY IS SERVICE TO GOD It started as a very humble desire and personal effort to serve humanity. This idea or desire is to provide groceries to households with very limited or no financial resources. Through the generosity of a growing network of donors and volunteers, the initial effort expanded to provide groceries on a recurring basis from a few to hundreds of families. With the increase in donations and the growth of the recipients of monthly groceries, it became imperative that a non-profit organization to be formed. Hence, Darul Infaq Foundation USA was formed and registered with the Secretary of State, Illinois and with IRS in October 5, 2021 as a non-profit - Tax Exempt organization. Darul Infaq has also expanded to offering assistance with school fees to households with very limited or no financial resources, assistance with emergency medical expenses to those in need and distributing cooked food to the homeless.
