Tonight marks the matchup college football fans have been waiting for, the University of Michigan taking on the University of Washington for the College Football Championship. ESPN is ushering in a new era of sports broadcasting as they are doing a nearly complete IP-based production compound, with new camera technology like upgraded PylonCams, 4k capable cameras on the SkyCams, and a box camera on each goalpost. The PlyonCams will be stationed the front corners of each end zone to allow for high-frame-rate images with super-slow-mo abilities, thus ushering in a never before seen era of PylonCams. On the goal posts will be 360 degree cameras, courtesy of Cosm, which allows for a 190 degree look the back of the end zone. A total of 89 game cameras will be on site, with 78 dedicated to the main game show broadcast and 11 shared with MegeCast options. 15 slow-motion cameras, 13 RF cameras, 2 SkyCams, RefCams, the Goodyear Blimp, live drone and more will be honing in on the field action. Despite the game being produced and distributed in 1080p SDR, both SkyCams will be shooting in 4K for the 4K Skycast alternative feed. Along with the stacked camera arsenal, 168 channels of replay are available for all the feeds broadcasting the game. "I think it’s great for the audience at home: the detail that they now can see things in with this innovation. It’s going to be terrific. It’s not the next step; it’s the next leap.” - John LaChance Jimmy Platt | Amanda Gifford Lockwood | Tommy Mitchell | Brian Ristine NEP Group, Inc. | Sony | Game Creek Video
