In the spirit of the Olympic Games and understanding how events can lead to representation and inclusion, we wanted to highlight the Spirit of 2012 report. This report, grounded in a decade of community-driven projects, challenges us to think beyond just legacy to the broader social impact of events. It offers practical insights into accessibility, representation, and community engagement. The goal is to ensure that inclusion becomes a fundamental aspect of UK events, creating opportunities for everyone to participate. Sport England is investing in Derby, specifically in those places where it is hardest to be active. Physical activity is vital for our physical and mental health, from walking to work to playing sports with friends. But not all of us have the same opportunities to be active. When children don’t have safe spaces to run and play, when adults are working long hours and constantly worrying about making ends meet, it makes it harder to be active and healthy. Through placed-based working we can work deeply in a place, developing meaningful partnerships with communities and the organisations that support them – this is why we are calling the work ‘Place Partnerships’. With these partnerships in place, we can better co-design opportunities which make it easier for residents to be active when they step out of their homes. To achieve this, we need to: - work together, from community members to voluntary organisations to local government. - build networks and develop relationships in place - break down the barriers that get in the way of being active. - strengthen communities in a way that is reflective of their unique needs, relationships and geography. This is why we're looking to build extra capacity in Derby to support this work. Our current opportunities are Derby Place Partnership Lead (Move More Derby) (£55,385 p/a / 24 month fixed-term contract / Deadline for applications 8/9/2024) This role will lead the Place Partnership work in Derby. Building strong collaboration across a wide range of partner organisations, the focus will be on creating the culture and environment for change, reflecting the needs of communities and their barriers to being active. https://lnkd.in/emHWRf2K Derby Place Partnership Health Lead (Move More Derby) (£36,910 / 24 month fixed-term contract / Deadline for applications 29/9/2024) As part of the wider Place Partnership work in Derby, this role will work closely with a range of health partners and community organisations. The focus will be on embedding physical activity into health inequalities work and influencing health strategy and policy. https://lnkd.in/eEkyFnVv Find out more about the wider Place Partnerships work and opportunities at https://lnkd.in/e3ChA9j6

In a world where the lines of exclusivity are being redrawn, it's time we embrace a new era of belonging. The essence of exclusivity is evolving, shifting away from the traditional paradigm of who we exclude to a more inclusive, vibrant vision of who we welcome. It's a transformation that highlights the richness of diversity and the depth of our connections. Gone are the days when the gates of private members' clubs were closely guarded, accessible only to a select few based on outdated criteria. Today, the true value of these spaces lies not in the exclusivity of their membership but in the quality and passion of the individuals they bring together. It's about creating a sanctuary where like-minded souls can converge, share ideas, and fuel their passions. This shift towards inclusivity doesn't dilute the essence of what makes these clubs special; rather, it enriches it. By broadening the definition of exclusivity, we foster a community that's not just about belonging but about contributing. It's a space where every member is passionate, engaged, and driven by a desire to make a difference, both within the club's walls and beyond. Let's celebrate this new chapter in the story of private members' clubs. A chapter where the focus is on building bridges, not walls. Where we recognize the strength in our diversity and the power of our collective engagement. Here's to welcoming a future where the spirit of community shines brighter than the allure of exclusivity. #communitybuilding #inclusivespaces #diversityandinclusion

Leave No Trace Ireland has twelve Core Members - organisations who are dedicating themselves to the care of our outdoors! Through the Leave No Trace Core Member Network, we connect together and focus on how we can collectively care for our outdoor spaces. We discuss what are the common issues each organisation is facing, what collaborative approaches we can take together, and how we can promote a Leave No Trace ethos into all the different areas that we each specialise in! Currently, we are in the midst of having our start-of-year meetings will all our different core members to assess what directions and issues we’re looking at tackling this year, and we’re really excited about the conversations we’re having! This is one of the less visible elements of the work we do, but is integral to promoting cross-organisation communication and developing more tools for responsible outdoor recreation across Ireland 💚 OUR CORE MEMBERS: Sport Ireland - Department of Rural and Community Development - Fáilte Ireland - Coillte - Waterways Ireland - National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) - Irish Environmental Network - The Heritage Council - Tourism Ireland - Dublin City Council - Helly Hansen - Gas Networks Ireland

As our communities need of culture has grown, our financial parameters have tightened beyond recognition. Culture gives towns and cities so much - social cohesion, visitor spend, employment, profile, literacy, ambition and pride. Over 2m buy tickets to cultural events in Nottingham every year - the benefits reaching into every bar, restaurant, hotel, taxi firm and transport company. Not to mention multiple millions of £ of parking charges. If the arts is to continue to support all areas of society, it needs sustained, adequate funding and supportive partnership. These stats, from the LGA, explain why you might have seen an upturn in the "ask" from the cultural sector. If you can respond to that ask - you will be protecting an industry that delivers so much bang for every buck.
