And, in one year, cases relating to invisible conditions rose by 30% 🤯 Employers need to start understanding the law, instead of ignoring it - because it still exists either way. That's why Leanne Maskell’s latest book, 'ADHD Works at Work' is so important. 👉 To help everybody understand the law around disabilities 👉 To bridge the gap between employers & employees 👉 To make HR a little more ‘human’ The bottom line? 👇🏻👇🏻 Don’t underestimate how huge even minor adjustments to someone’s work practices or environment can be. It’s their legal right to request them and your legal responsibility to try your absolute best to say yes. If you’re ever unsure, lean on support from people like us before you say no. Not only is it costly when you get it wrong but the impact on the individual and your reputation can be huge. #disabilityatwork

Often the support staff have no idea about their participant. Have no training to support them no supervision for safety. Many mental health nurses wont attend some of these individuals unless in twos with police attendance. The states dumped mental health and many on forensic orders receive this kind of "care" or supervision from people who have absolutely no training no idea and no way of protecting themselves from even psychological trauma. I have no argument about any person receiving care but question why it has to be from staff and providers who are in the dark not just managing their participants risk but also their own.In my opinion this is specialised. It is criminal to place staff in these situations and to place participants with these kinds of needs on babysitting duty. Those that claim to advocate systemically need to understand the entire system not just their own bubble of lived experience.

#LDIBlog A lot of disabilities are visible - but many more are invisible. As an L&D professional, you will have encountered a learner with an invisible disability within the last week. If you work in any mid- to large-sized company, you almost certainly have someone with a disability working in your business right now. Stephen Kelly from Ability Focus highlights the gaps in our knowledge when it comes to addressing disability awareness training, and how to bridge that gap.
