after many hours of work, here we can see a photogrammetry project. 5000 photos are taken by drone and then using software are then processed to turn them into a 3d map. Photogrammetry is the art, science, and technology of obtaining reliable information about physical objects and the environment through processes of recording, measuring, and interpreting photographic images. Using Photogrammetry enables high levels of precision and accuracy in measurements in a way that can scale significantly.

Aerial mapping (known as "photogrammetry and remote sensing") creates a record of roads, landscapes and more along MnDOT highways and interstates. These images and laser readings help inform transportation planning and highway design and are mostly collected using airplanes and, for smaller projects, drones. We combine photography and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) to create maps of the area. The LiDAR image seen here is near White Bear Lake. To collect accurate data, several conditions must be just right: the trees can’t have leaves, the snow must be gone, there can’t be water on the ground and—for photography—the sun has to be out. These explorations are part of our some humble strides with our cultural heritage sites through Photogrammetry! Digital documentation through imaging aka photogrammetry has revolutionised the way we capture and analyse spatial data. We continuously work towards achieving larger scale laser scanning output using more affordable and available tools; that can allow small conservation firms, practitioners and professionals, in getting reliable site data & information for further interventions. Incidentally Laser Scanning has been associated with high costs and complex setups, limiting its accessibility to institutions. Laser scanning has set the industry data standards, in terms of its reliability, while accuracy with photogrammetry is directly reliable to the people working with it; hence the mean accuracy has always been between 85-95% across the world. We believe mastering photogrammetry and its accuracy could be made possible with continuous explorations, standards, understanding and adapting within the resources. We are incredibly proud to be part of a practice that constantly pushes boundaries and strives for inclusivity. These advancements signify not just technological progress, but a commitment to making valuable tools accessible to everyone. It is imminent to explore technology that is accessible and accurate, for the future. There are some inaccurate parts in merging the exterior & interior spatial images; this aspect continues to be on the dashboard. Conventional orthophotography uses sensors that cover relatively large areas and are designed for mapping projects typically achieving a Ground Sample Distance (GSD) of 6 inches (pixel size). But what if the objects you are photographing are smaller, more visual detail is needed, and features need quantifying? That’s where SI-SFAP comes to play. As part of a USDOT project “Remote Sensing in Transportation”, BOYLE and UNCC developed a patented method of using fixed-wing aircraft to photograph bridge decks over very large geographic areas throughout the United States, quickly and efficiently, to quantify bridge defects and to apply bridge deck ratings (dozens of bridges can be photographed statewide in a day with one aircraft). This approach provides a more objective and cost-effective system to improve the allocation of limited bridge deck rehabilitation dollars nationwide. This bridge deck image was captured at 1,000 feet AGL (Above Ground Level) at 160 MPH with a GSD<1 inch. Artificial Intelligence is used to identify visual defects, quantify them, and estimate the cost of repair.
