I had an amazing one-day training session in #Astana, organized by the OSCE Mission in #Kazakhstan, for HR management officers from the #justice and #security sector focusing on #GE. During the training, we discussed various topics, including: - The benefits and structure of a comprehensive organizational #gender #equity strategy for supporting more inclusive HR management policies. - Specific HR policies aimed at eliminating gender discrimination and various forms of #VAW, including #sexual #harassment.  - Targeted and general gender equity capacity-building for security and justice sector professionals. Kazakhstan is a leader in gender equality among Central Asian countries. In fact, it has improved its overall ranking and jumped 18 positions to 62nd place in the Global Gender Gap Index 2023, which measures gender equality among 146 countries. The country has eliminated gender gaps in education levels and improved economic and political opportunities. However, there is still a long way to go in achieving gender parity and general gender equality for women, both in public and private life. Martin 🙏

🌟 **Reflecting on a Transformative Experience: Gender Strategy Training Workshop** 🌟 Last week, I had the privilege of participating in a two-day nonresidential training workshop on the Comprehensive Gender Strategy for the Public Sector (CGSPS), organized by the Public Sector Reform Secretariat (Office of the President). Held at the Best Western Premier Hotel Accra Airport, this workshop brought together gender desk officers from various institutions, creating a diverse and dynamic learning environment. The experience was incredibly enriching as we delved into the principles and practices of gender equality and social inclusion. The comprehensive manual provided to us is a valuable road map, guiding how to effectively integrate the CGSPS into our daily work. The training equipped me with essential skills and tools to champion gender equality and social inclusion within my institution, ensuring that our efforts are both practical and impactful. The workshop significantly enhanced my understanding of the critical aspects of gender equality and the importance of social inclusion in public sector organizations. This knowledge is crucial for fostering an equitable workplace where everyone can thrive. Additionally, the workshop provided actionable strategies to operationalize the CGSPS, helping us implement gender-responsive and socially inclusive practices and policies to make our institutions more effective and equitable. One of the highlights for me was connecting with other gender desk officers. The exchange of ideas and experiences was incredibly inspiring, and I look forward to continued collaboration with my peers as we work towards a more inclusive and equitable public sector. In my latest publication, the stark reality facing Yemeni women unfolds— ranking 155th in the Global Gender Gap Index amid conflict. This isn’t just a statistic; it’s a reflection of diminished economic, educational, health, and political empowerment for women. OECD DAC Network on Gender Equality Latest data on official development assistance (ODA) for gender equality and women’s empowerment Some findings: -ODA to support women’s rights organisations and movements, and government institutions dropped -Only 4% of total bilateral aid was dedicated to programmes with gender equality as the principal objective, a similar share from the previous period. -The share of ODA with gender equality objectives has dropped after a decade on the rise -“Humanitarian aid” and aid for the “Energy” sector continue to have the lowest shares of aid with gender equality objectives -Gender equality is well integrated into the sectors “Other Social Infrastructure & Services”, “Agriculture & Rural Development” and “Education”. 

Gender equality is essential for accelerating the sustainable development goals of the Agenda 2030. Gender mainstreaming aims to integrate gender equality perspectives in all the stages and levels of policies, programs, and projects. Migrant women are less included in the labor market in the EU comparing to migrant men and native women. They are also more likely to be overqualified for their jobs. Therefore, in this case study we aim to analyse the existing measures for social and labor integration in Slovenia from the lens of gender equality. This is in order to come up with further conclusions on how to assure gender equality in the discourse of migration and integration for the achievement of the sustainable development goals. https://lnkd.in/eFuPjXYE

Thanks for sharing Malini Patel! The new #ODA data on the status of #gender #equality and #women's #empowerment is interesting. I think what we're seeing in #energy and #humanitarian aid "sectors" is a reflection of compounding issues, some of which are rooted in #socio #cultural norms around where the activities take place, others related to women's lack of representation in the respective #workforce and #organisational #heirarchies, and that again, due to women's lack of participation in #technical fields of #education. We need to be more of aware of the different scales at which we need to tackle inequalities and I don't think we can expect any one sectoral intervention or organisation to make big strides. In fact, I think that's part of the problem. If we had more #multisectoral interventions, development aid focused on the #holistic nature of issues and governments genuinely interested in unleashing the #talents of their people, we'd come much further.

COL in Uganda: Mainstreaming gender for improved policy and service The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) recognises that institutions can be catalysts for increased awareness of and advocates for #genderequality to bring about #socialchange. Gender-based analysis informs COL’s work and that of its partners to develop #innovative #interventions for building capacity and resources in #gendermainstreaming. Gender mainstreaming is a set of specific, strategic approaches as well as technical and institutional processes adopted to achieve the goal of gender equality. Unfortunately, our country ranks on the gender gap report is below average. Achieving equality is indeed a fundamental priority that requires urgent attention and action. To promote equality effectively, we must undertake comprehensive efforts across various sectors. It's crucial for government, civil society, and individuals to collaborate to address these challenges and promote a more equal and inclusive society. And provide accessible healthcare, counseling, and resources for survivors of gender-based violence and discrimination. Research shows that women are more likely to experience economic insecurity and poverty due to gender disparities in wages and employment opportunities. Women in rural areas face additional challenges in accessing education and economic opportunities compared to their urban counterparts. Recent studies in gender and development have also shown that investing in women's education and healthcare not only promotes gender equality but also contributes to economic growth and social stability. As a student of gender and development studies, I strongly condemn gender inequality and discrimination across every sector. It is crucial that we all unite to create a more peaceful environment. Let's work together to address these issues and build a society where everyone can thrive.
