DAY 6: HEPATITIS INSIGHTS AND FACTS Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) is an RNA virus of the Hepeviridae family under the genus Hepevirus. It is transmitted faeco-orally by consumption of contaminated water or food hence a common cause of outbreaks in communities with poor sanitation and unsafe water. Other transmission routes have been identified, which include transfusion with infected blood products and perinatal transmission from mother to child. Outbreaks and sporadic cases of hepatitis E occur around the world. These outbreaks frequently occur in resource-limited countries with inadequate access to safe water supply, sanitation, hygiene, essential health services, and may affect several hundred to several thousands of persons.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a pressing global health threat. Misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in humans accelerate the development of drug-resistant pathogens. AMR poses significant risks to public health, food security, and economic stability. Left unchecked, AMR could lead to unprecedented health crises, widespread suffering, and substantial economic losses. To combat AMR, a multifaceted approach is necessary, including responsible antimicrobial use, improved infection prevention and control, and innovative research. Effective antimicrobial stewardship requires collaboration across healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sectors to protect public health and ensure the continued effectiveness of antimicrobial medicines. 🌍 Today's #MondayRead sheds light on the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) and the concerning divide between the Global North and Global South priorities. In the race against increasing bacterial resistance, a coordinated approach is crucial. 🌐 The disparities in resources, needs, and priorities threaten the success of mitigating the AMR pandemic. The evidence suggests a need to prioritize infection prevention interventions in the Global South, focusing on clean water, safe sanitation, increased vaccine coverage, and enhanced measures for food production. 💡 Rather than solely concentrating on new antibiotic research in the Global North, the call is for a recalibration of global funding resources. Don't forget #hepatitis E! To mark World Hepatitis Day, it's worth remembering that hepatitis E occurs all over the world but is most common in South-East Asia. Like hepatitis A, the HEV virus is transmitted mainly through food (contaminated water, shellfish, vegetables and fruit contaminated by contact with contaminated water). Biological diagnosis is simple and reliable: detection of the virus by PCR and detection of anti-HEV antibodies in the blood. Prevention involves applying good personal hygiene practices and avoiding drinking water or ice of uncertain purity.

Cholera is an acute infection cause by Bacterium Vibrio Cholerae found in contaminated food and water. In most of the cases its symptoms are mild and some cases even have no symptoms at all. We can prevent cholera by making sure that the water we drink and the food we eat is pure and healthy and the food should be cooked properly. CHOLERA. Cholera is a highly infectious bacterial disease caused by Vibrio cholerae, characterized by sudden onset of severe diarrhea and vomiting, leading to rapid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Signs and Symptoms of Cholera. - Sudden onset of severe diarrhea (watery stool) - Vomiting - Rapid dehydration - Thirst - Electrolyte imbalance - Shock (in severe cases) Causes of Cholera. - Contaminated food and water - Poor sanitation and hygiene - Crowding and poverty - Inadequate healthcare Management of Cholera. - Fluid replacement with oral rehydration therapy (ORT) or intravenous fluids - Antibiotics (doxycycline or azithromycin) - Rest - Monitoring of vital signs and electrolyte levels Prevention of Cholera. - Safe drinking water and sanitation - Proper food handling and storage - Good personal hygiene - Vaccination (oral cholera vaccines) - Avoiding close contact with infected individuals Please read and learn. 🌍 Urgent global action is needed to combat rising drug resistance! A coordinated approach is crucial for health, food, and environmental security. However, diverging priorities between the Global North and South pose a threat to sustainable solutions. Evidence points to prioritizing infection prevention measures in the South, like clean water🚰 and vaccines💉, rather than focusing solely on developing new antibiotics💊 in the North. Global leaders must recalibrate funding to address this disparity and ensure an effective response to the antimicrobial resistance crisis. Cholera Outbreak: Causes, Symptoms, and Prevention Causes of Cholera Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. The infection is usually contracted through the consumption of contaminated water or food. Poor sanitation, inadequate water treatment, and improper waste disposal are significant contributors to the spread of cholera. Signs and Symptoms: 🌹Severe diarrhoea: Often watery and described as "rice-water" stools. 🌹Vomiting: Occurs frequently and without warning. 🌹Dehydration: Rapid loss of fluids can lead to extreme thirst, dry mouth, and sunken eyes. Leg cramps: Due to electrolyte imbalances. 🌹Shock: Severe dehydration can lead to low blood pressure and shock, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly. Preventive Measures: 🌹Safe water: Drink only boiled or chemically treated water. Use bottled water if possible. 🌹Proper sanitation: Use latrines or bury faeces; do not defecate in any body of water. 🌹Hand hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap and safe water, especially before handling food and after using the bathroom. 🌹Food safety: Eat only thoroughly cooked food. Avoid raw fruits and vegetables unless you can peel them yourself. 🌹Vaccination: In areas where cholera is common, vaccines are available and can provide some protection. What to Do if Infected: 🌹 Rehydration: Immediate rehydration is crucial. Oral rehydration salts (ORS) should be taken to replenish lost fluids and electrolytes. 🌹Seek medical care: Visit a healthcare facility as soon as possible. Severe cases may require intravenous fluids and antibiotics. 🌹Continue hydration: Keep drinking ORS or safe water even if diarrhoea persists. 🌹 Avoid spreading infection: Isolate the infected person as much as possible and ensure strict hygiene practices to prevent the spread of the disease to others. GI infections are caused by the ingestion of harmful pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses or parasites, into the digestive tract. These infections are often spread through contaminated food or water, but can also spread person-to-person due to poor hygiene. Most people with GI infections recover on their own, but GI infections can be dangerous in persons with weakened or compromised immune systems.1

3 keys for successful dairy production 1.transition period If you prepare the cow at this period probably you will have a good result in production and reproduction and law metabolic disease 2. colostrum If calves take good quality and proper quantity at first one hour of calving you will have a good heifer for production and reproduction and highly immunity and more healthy 3.Biosecurity program if you have a proper biosecurity program depending on the history and surrounding you will have a good health herd free from infectious disease

Antimicrobial resistance (#AMR) is a growing threat. It occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve and become resistant to medicines, making infections harder to treat. Everyone can fight AMR by preventing infections from happening in the first place. Learn more about some effective measures everyone can adopt to lower the risk of infection from these drug-resistant microbes here: https://ow.ly/V2VW50SNZqf In recent The Lancet series on AMR, written by experts brought together by OHT, the authors show that vaccines, improved hygiene and sanitation, clean water, and the careful use of antibiotics and antivirals play a crucial role in combating AMR.
