It's essential to address the issue of gatekeeping in funding allocation within organizations claiming to serve marginalized communities. The practice of using the "T" in LGBTQ to secure maximum funding for trans individuals, while not effectively supporting or serving them, is DIABOLICAL WORK. Many cisgender-led organizations prioritize funding over genuine service delivery to the trans community, even though local Trans-led organizations are actively engaged in providing essential support and services. This disparity highlights the need for transparency and accountability in resource allocation. As a Black Trans ED navigating funding opportunities, being aware of these challenges is crucial. Upholding integrity and ensuring that resources reach those who need them the most is key to fostering inclusivity and equity within the nonprofit sector. #FundingEquity #TransRights #NonprofitLeadership

LGBTQ+ led and serving organizations are chronically under resourced. According to Funders for LGBQT Issues’ Grantmaking by US Foundations Report, for every $100 awarded by US foundations in 2021, only 28 cents specifically supported LGBTQ communities and issues; foundations allocated less than 4 cents per $100 of their total giving to trans communities and issues. These numbers are alarming, but they speak to the lack of investment in LGBTQ+ led and serving work - Which is why organizations like ours are so reliant on community donations! Please join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives and futures of systems-impacted trans and queer people this Give OUT Day! https://lnkd.in/gzupHnkN

Some thoughts I have about #PrideMonth this year and how organizations can support the LGBTQ+ members of key audiences.
At Slide Nine, we embrace diversity and inclusion not just as seasonal observances, but as pillars of our work culture. We proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community, not just during Pride Month but every day. Through our unique philanthropy initiative, we empower our team members to make a difference by providing each with $1,000 to donate to causes of their choice that promote a safer, more equitable world. #HappyPride #Community #DEI

Some good news as we head into the final weekend of Pride month: Funders for LGBTQ Issues has reported that Tides Foundation is the fifth-largest funder of LGBTQ issues in the United States! We're also the 4th-largest funder of LGBTQ issues by number of grants. Other takeaways from Funders for LGBTQ Issues' report: ➡️ Funding for trans communities from foundations increased by 34%, a result of strategic philanthropic organizing efforts that ramped up in response to a surge in legal and policy attacks on trans lives. ➡️ For the first time, a majority of grants from U.S. foundations were general operating support grants—vital for ensuring that LGBTQ organizations can function sustainably in the long term. ➡️ Funding to Black LGBTQ communities doubled from 7% to 14%, although total overall funding for LGBTQ communities of color decreased.
