Proud to be offering insights on this critical topic, along side those providing meaningful solutions to build better. Housing affordability is more than just supply and demand. Builders are experiencing unprecedented business challenges preventing productivity and profitability, which directly contribute to hyper-inflated end-user costs. There is a better way, and collaboration with locally driven innovators is proving to be a catalyst for meaningful change in the residential sector.

News - #CIOB and TASC - Think-tank for Action on Social Change have collaborated on a new report examining the use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) in Ireland. We are also calling for the Irish Government to promote the development and expansion of MMC to help speed up the delivery of housing stock. The report also outlines the case for the expansion of MMC to speed up the delivery of new housing and tackle issues of quality and environmental impact within our sector. Why are most new proposed apartment buildings huge? Economies of scale from construction start to kick in around ~200 units + institutional investors in big projects tend to be okay w/ lower returns Smaller projects struggle right now w/ higher costs + investor expectations

The residential construction sector faces enormous challenges, with latest Statistics New Zealand - Christchurch figures revealing that building a house is now 41% more expensive than it was before the Covid-19 pandemic. Yet publicly funded organisations such as Callaghan Innovation and building research agency BRANZ struggle to support ventures like Adaptable Structures because they can’t be seen to favour one technology over another, commentators point out to Shoeshine. Maria Slade interviewed key innovators in the construction industry, including saveBOARD's Paul Charteris and XFrame's Ged Finch, to understand what challenges they face in New Zealand's residential construction market. Quality modular construction. 🏗 What a great way to contribute to Australia's housing targets. 👏
Yesterday, our CEO Bruce Nicholson joined a thought leadership panel of industry leaders hosted by Hon Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science. The discussion focused on how the modular industry could ramp up to contribute even more to ambitious national housing targets and the challenges and opportunities in doing so. It's great to see modular construction being recognised across society as a way of building quality homes faster so more Australians can have a roof over their heads sooner. Whether its quality, speed, cost or sustainability, the benefits of modular construction are clear. #housing #innovation #modularhousing #construction #housingshortage

VEGO Building System by MAH (My Affordable House): High-quality, energy-efficient, and robust building components produced at a rate of 20,000 square feet per hour.
Homes England invested millions in modular builders but “they don’t seem to have understood what they were doing”. To move construction into real industrialized productivity, we need to totally rethink the way we build. Industrialized manufacturing needs to be based on standardization and mass production. At VEGO, we've developed a game-changing building technology that does exactly that. Our precision composite building components are mass-produced and shipped flat packed to the building site in a standard 40ft container, enabling quick assembly by unskilled workers without the need for a crane. Using our VEGO technology, we can produce up to 1000sf of living space per hour. This means we can bring back affordability and profitability to building projects. It's time to revolutionize the construction industry and embrace industrialized productivity. Learn more about VEGO and our innovative approach to building technology.

"The private sector tends to react more quickly to changing market conditions than the public sector (development entities) with the more immediate commercial pressures inherent in their specific business model having a major influence." "Historically, and particularly for housing associations, there has been a tendency to try and build internal capacity in all of the elements of development delivery, including development management, construction management and sales and marketing." #housing In Housing Today, Richard Jones who is a partner at Arcadis, discusses the challenges and key improvements facing the residential sector. https://lnkd.in/eYH6WZMq

I am not sure about the headline — but yes, we need to continue investing in and developing our offsite manufacturing capabilities in Queensland, at scale. The commitment of 600 volumetric modular homes by the end of this year is a good start, but we really need that commitment to be in the thousands. Industry is telling us “it’s all about volume and through put.” We won't be able to achieve our target of one million homes solely through traditional construction. Therefore, the quicker governments can transition to scaling up through modern and smarter building methods, the better. 🗳️🏠 Our State Election Platform is calling for rapidly expanding the State’s MMC modular housing program, in partnership with industry; and, aiding the building and construction industry in its transition to a future industrialised manufacturing. For a bit more on this. Check our op-ed in today's The Courier-Mail from Q Shelter and Master Builders Queensland. What is the future of modular construction? ⌛ The idea is appealing: traditional, messy building sites replaced by efficient factories producing homes. However, with government-funded initiatives in modular construction leading to consistent financial losses, questions need to be asked. Read our blog exploring the issues with modular construction and our thoughts on what we should be focusing on... https://lnkd.in/ePimVg8T
