Is Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) the Future of Aerospace and Defense Communication? The landscape of communication technologies in defense and aerospace is evolving rapidly. Traditional systems like MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429 have long been the backbone, but are they facing a challenger? Our latest article explores whether TSN could potentially take over MIL-STD-1553 in these critical applications. TSN offers precise timing, low latency, and high availability, making it ideal for time-critical scenarios. Read more to understand the dynamics between legacy systems and the emergence of TSN: https://lnkd.in/eKJ7Df4f #Aerospace #Defense #TSN #MILSTD1553

Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) has awarded Airbus the SATCOMBw 3 prime contract for the next generation secure military satellite system which includes geostationary satellites as well as ground segment, launch and operation for 15 years. The spacecraft are due to be deployed before the end of the decade and the contract value amounts to EUR 2.1 billion. Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, said: “After the success of the SATCOMBw Stage 2 programme, which we have been delivering since 2009, this latest contract reinforces our strategic partnership with the Bundeswehr, providing them with a greatly enhanced secure milsatcom capability that is future proofed into the 2040s. At a time when Western democracies are challenged and where the European institutional space ecosystem is struggling, we are excited and grateful to develop and build this leading-edge system. Long term partnerships are crucial to guaranteeing essential sovereignty and capability, and protecting our armed forces in the increasingly unstable geo-political environment.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/d9ecZs4B #Germany #space #satelite #communication #armedforces #Bundeswehr #industry #technology #military #SATCOM

Here’s a recap of the other relevant news for #militaryaviation: 🔥Pratt & Whitney awarded 1.3 B$ for the F135 Engine Core Upgrade. The contract is meant to push durability and thermal management for all #F35 variants and was preferred over a complete replacement with an adaptive cycle solution (more effective but also more costly). 🔥Northrop Grumman has been selected to continue the development of its Glide Phase Interceptor, a new defense asset designed to take down #hypersonic weapons during the glide phase of the flight. Northrop won over the competitors RTX and Lockheed Martin. Also Europe is investing in this through two different proposals HYDEF and HYDIS, coordinated by Sistemas de Missiles de España and MBDA respectively. 🔥The Air Force Research Laboratory highlighted its Low-Cost Attritable Aircraft Platform Sharing (LCAAPS) programme at the Air and Space Force Association’s Air, Space and Cyber Conference. The goal is to develop multiple uncrewed aerial systems from a base platform, applying a modular, open system architecture. By maximizing commonality, it would be possible to streamline the design, simplify the supply chain and reduce costs. 🔥United States Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall said that the cost per unit of the Next-Generation Air Dominance (#NGAD) program must be reduced by more than two-thirds (less than the F-35 or the F-15EX). This should be made possible by transferring some mission capabilities and functions to the Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) program.

Airbus Defense and Space has won a substantial $2.5 billion contract from the German military for the SATCOMBw 3 next-generation communications satellites. This deal consists of the development and deployment of two advanced geostationary satellites, as well as upgrades to the ground segment, launch services, and operational support for 15 years. These satellites are expected to offer increased bandwidth, improved security, and enhanced resilience, marking a significant upgrade from the aging SATCOMBw 2 system.

Celestia TTI (TTI) and Indra, as the national industrial coordinator of the NGWS/FCAS program in Spain, have reached a collaboration agreement to jointly develop next-generation antennas, enabling them to design advanced communications systems for the FCAS program. More specifically, they will work on multi-purpose antennas capable of meeting civil and military needs and bands and establishing links with satellite networks in geostationary, high, medium and low orbits. They will also develop internal links to facilitate the integration of the aircraft’s onboard systems, thereby enhancing the distributed data processing and improving situational awareness. Alejandro Serrano, Indra’s Program Manager, stated: “Developing the combat cloud will lead to creating a collaborative space involving multiple air, naval and ground platforms and mark a turning point in the world of defence. The agreement we’ve reached with Celestia TTI will enable us to accelerate its development in the field of communications and explore new concepts and technologies that will shape the future of defence”.
