The results are in! With 59% of the vote, it appears that a majority of companies are currently offering three weeks or more of PTO to new hires. On the opposite end of the spectrum, a troubling 12% of respondents come from businesses that provide less than two weeks for new employees. With work/life balance progressively moving up the priority list for U.S. workers, organizations that remain competitive on PTO are likely to have significantly higher acceptance rates at offer stage. If you find your company in the 12% category, it’s time to revisit those policies with the appropriate authorities and bump the PTO up to remain in line with the market. #poll #pto #timeoff #entrylevel #ptopolicy #worklifebalance #jobsearch #hiring #newhire #recruiting

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞? 𝐈𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭? There’s no limit per se, but there are few factors you might want to consider: 👉 If the employee was looking for a part-time job when you hired them (and didn’t settle for fewer hours than desired), you may get pushback if you assign more hours than they bargained for on a regular basis. 👉 Under certain laws, as well as insurance and retirement plans, benefits kick in when an employee hits a certain number of hours per week, regardless of how you classify them. For example, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) considers employees full time at 30 or more hours per week. 👉 If you regularly assign an employee a full-time schedule while continuing to classify them as “part time”—and full-time employees receive additional benefits, such as paid time off—the employee could argue they’re being treated unfairly or even in a way that amounts to employment discrimination.

So let's think about companies that offer "unlimited PTO" and why this isn't as great as people think... Thing is, you can take as much time off (with your manager's approval) but when you leave the company they don't reimburse you for any "left over" time off. Really great for the company, not so great for the employee, especially if the company had mandatory shut down dates. So when searching, find companies that offer a standard time off package, sometimes companies will negotiate the amount of time off.

CEO @ Confirm | Helping CEOs & CHROs increase capital efficiency through revealing massive surprises about their people
Hot take: Re: denying PTO requests... Right now it's the individual's responsibility to get permission from their manager, but it should be the reverse. It should be the manager's responsibility to look ahead and tell their team, "Team, please don't take XYZ dates off because we have critical thing ABC happening." All PTO requests not on those dates should be auto-approved if the employee has the time banked (or, with unlimited PTO, auto-approved if it's not above company average for their role and tenure). Otherwise, we're allowing managers to be the deciders of what can and can't happen in the personal lives of their team members. #hr #hrtech #pto #timeoff

We currently operate on a single PTO bucket system that merges vacation, sick days, holidays, and Flex Time. Right now, we don’t offer any payout for unused PTO when someone leaves, which has led to some questions and frustrations among team members. What’s got me curious is that it seems like the law around PTO payout is still being debated in the courts. Given this uncertainty, I would love to hear how your companies in New Mexico are navigating this situation. Are you paying out PTO upon termination? If so, what process do you follow? These pain points often arise because: Uncertainty about the law can lead to inconsistent practices. Employees feeling undervalued if t...

Things to consider, do you really need your employee committed to being in a seat for 35+ hours a week? Or do you need them to have the task and work assigned to them completed by the deadline you agreed to? I dare say if it is the latter, employers should consider editing their salary and PTO structure to reflect the need of the organization as opposed to leaning so heavily into the dying work structure of employment. #employment #pto #unlimitedPTO #worklifebalance
