On this day, June 27, 1923, the first successful in-flight refueling was conducted at Rockwell Field, San Diego. During this pioneering event, Lts. Virgil Hine and Frank W. Seifert transferred gasoline via a hose from their DH-4B aircraft to another DH-4B piloted by Lts. Lowell H. Smith and John P. Richter. Aerial refueling has since evolved into a crucial component of the defense capabilities of both the UK and our international allies. At Copper & Optic, we have played a significant role in advancing this technology across various platforms. Modern advancements have introduced sophisticated electrical systems that ensure safer and more efficient fuel transfer. Innovations such as automated fuel management systems, enhanced communication networks, and real-time monitoring have revolutionized in-flight refueling operations - a long way from the hand held tank and hose of 1923! Copper and Optic's commitment to exceptional quality, reliability, and performance has been instrumental in supporting our customers domestically and globally. By integrating cutting-edge electrical engineering solutions, we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in aerial refueling technology. #AerospaceInnovation #DefenseTechnology #AerialRefuelling #AviationTechnology #UKDefence #AviationPioneers #ElectricalEngineering #AerospaceEngineering #InFlightRefuelling #AAR

OMT is part of the EUROGUARD consortium with 23 companies and research institutes from France, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, and Estonia. The project's total budget amounts to 95 million euros, with 65 million euros from the European Commission and 30 million euros from participating countries and companies themselves. Modularity and adaptability are the core of OMT naval ship designs, and the EUROGUARD project is a great platform for the demonstration of seamless integration of mission modules and payload systems using the CUBEDIN concept. The specific capabilities of the prototype will be determined through multi-year research and development activities, but, in general, the vessel should be capable of autonomous navigation, obstacle and threat detection, collision avoidance, and other mission-specific tasks. The prototype must adhere to the principle of modularity, allowing it to be assembled according to specific needs or tasks. Innovation is also expected in the propulsion system, with environmental sustainability being an important keyword. OMT is proud to be part of this project and is looking forward to fruitful collaboration with all EUROGUARD partners. Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/d2JAJGJm

NAVAL PROJECTS: GE Vernova to supply full electric #propulsion systems for #Singapore’s six multi-role combat vessels GE Vernova’s Power Conversion business has been awarded a contract by Singapore shipbuilder ST Engineering Marine Limited to supply its Ship's Electric Grid with integrated full electric propulsion (IFEP) equipment for the Republic of Singapore Navy’s six-ship multi-role combat vessel (MRCV) program. Andy Cooper, general manager at GE Vernova’s Power Conversion UK business, said, “Power Conversion is pleased to equip the RSN’s new MRCVs with electric power. Like so many other navies around the world, the RSN is adopting an electric ship configuration as an enabler for increased levels of power and energy efficiency. Being equipped with an electric grid allows a ship the ability to share every bit of available power throughout the vessel, strengthening its energy surety and even helping to reduce #greenhousegasemissions.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e7yHtVGn #Marine #Maritime #Electrification #Decarbonization #Sustainability #Environment #Technology #Transportation #EHMExpo #EHMXNA

"🚀 Decoding the Secrets of Safe Landings Ever wondered what makes Instrument Approach Procedures (IAPs) so crucial for safe landings? Here are some expert insights: - _Glide Slope Optimization_: Precise approaches rely on glide slopes, which are carefully designed to ensure a stable approach path, taking into account factors like terrain, obstacles, and aircraft performance! 📊 - _Terrain-Following Routes_: Non-precision approaches often follow terrain to minimize obstacles, but did you know that designers also consider factors like wind, noise pollution, and wildlife habitats? 🌳 - _Circling Approach Strategies_: Circling procedures require careful planning, taking into account wind, altitude, and turning radius to ensure a safe approach! 🌀 - _Missed Approach Design Considerations_: Designers carefully craft missed approach procedures to ensure a safe climb-out, considering terrain, obstacles, aircraft performance, and more! 📈 And here's an interesting fact: did you know that the first IAP was developed in the 1940s for the military, and was called the "Instrument Landing System" (ILS)? 🤔 Stay safe, and happy flying! #IAP #aviation #instrumentapproach #pilotlife #airtrafficcontrol"
