We are celebrating the wonderful women of AFP Houston who continue to Lead From the Future. Here are some fun facts about Women's Philanthropy from our friends at United Way of Kenosha County: 1. Women and girls reinvest an average of 90% of their income in their families, compared to a 30–40% reinvestment rate for men. 2. By 2026, women’s charitable giving would reach $1 trillion annually if women gave at 1.7%. 3. Women are more likely than men to give to charity. Women are more likely to give and give more to every charitable subsector with a few exceptions. 4. Women spend more time than men researching organizations before making charitable giving decisions and place greater importance on hearing the impact of their gift. 5. Women are more likely to volunteer and volunteer more hours than men. AFP Houston also honors the women on its own board of directors, with over 75% of the board comprised of women leaders who serve a variety of nonprofits and partners in our community. These women and the other women in our membership are all dedicated to making Houston a better place. Tag an inspiring woman in your life in the comments below!

Did you know that half of women in the U.S. are single due to being widowed, divorced, or having never married? If you, as a charity leader can identify and speak to the unique needs of women, the opportunity exists for you to empower their giving, legacy planning, and finish-line focus in dramatic ways. Legacy may mean something entirely different to them than it did to their parents or their spouses. In this webinar, we’ll consider what it looks like for charities to serve women givers with greater intentionality and understanding – especially engaging those who are going it alone. Not enough
Less than 2% of charitable giving in the United States goes to women and girls—and only a fraction of that goes to supporting girls and young women of color. This #InternationalWomensDay, we're calling on philanthropy to #InvestInWomen by creating spaces where adolescent girls and young women of color can learn, play, dream, and become powerful movement leaders. Tides Foundation's Advancing Girls Fund powers grantmaking for girls and young women of color and their allies. Since 2021, we’ve granted more than $61.9M to 150+ girl-centered organizations in 20 countries, 90% of which are BIPOC-led. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ercMjJxw

Nancy Fong of NYF Wealth Management NYF Management said this in our recent Women in Philanthropy webinar—and it rings very true, considering the dramatic increase in women’s charitable giving over the last few years.📈 She offers some tips on vetting recipients in our latest blog post: 👉Do some research to determine whether an organization is the right fit—especially where the donation will go, and whether the non-profit is ESG-optimized. 👉Look at the organization's financial statements and see what percentage is allocated to administration—to ensure the maximum goes to the cause. 👉Visit the charity in person to see how they operate—volunteering is a great way to do this. #GenusCapital #Philanthropy #WomenInPhilanthropy #ImpactInvest

Working at the intersection of storytelling, data, and fundraising to help amazing organizations raise money and transform lives.
Extremely misleading. Most of these people are giving to their own foundations, which are only required to dispense 5% of their assets each year. For example, if the Dells gave all of their $975M to their foundation (they didn't; their giving was split between their foundation and their DAF), the foundation is would only need to give out $48M. A better measurement of generosity is how much was given by these donors' foundations as a percentage of total assets and how much was unrestricted giving.
Thanks to Quartz for highlighting the top 10 donors on the Philanthropy 50, the Chronicle's annual ranking of the top philanthropists in the nation. Check out the full #PHIL50 list at: philanthropy.com/topdonors

On Sunday, April 14, MCN joined Senator Klobuchar, the Minnesota Council on Foundations, the Women's Foundation of Minnesota, and the EAST SIDE FREEDOM LIBRARY for a press conference to promote The Charitable Act (S.566/H.R. 3435) that would create a universal charitable deduction at the federal level. For over a century, our tax system has encouraged Americans to give back to their communities by providing tax deductions for contributions to charitable organizations. But this culture of giving is at risk. "Our sector is essential, yet MCN’s most recent nonprofit impact report highlights a dire need – as community demands continue to increase, critical financial donations have decreased," said MCN executive director Nonoko Sato at the press conference. "In fact, according to Giving USA Foundation’s 2023 report, individual giving adjusted for inflation, has declined 13.4% in 2022, only the fourth time that donations have fallen in the last 40 years." The Charitable Act, at its core, is about building stronger and more resilient communities. By recognizing and incentivizing charitable contributions, governments signal their support for the critical role that nonprofits play in delivering essential services, fostering innovation, and building stronger communities.
