Call for urgent and equitable energy transition at 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development The energy crisis is global. In Southern Africa, the impact of prolonged drought on energy is painful and is having a devastating impact on development outcomes, including food security, jobs and the goal of sustainable industrialisation. Seen the story on the Kariba Dam – those who live in Zambia and Zimbabwe feel the impact directly. But there are opportunities for acceleration of renewables. UN leaders of the 5 Regional Economic Commissions attending the 13th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development have signed a statement calling for urgent and equitable energy transition. They have called for accelerating renewable energy deployment and improving energy efficiency, to triple global renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency improvement rates by 2030, helping member States meet both SDG 7 and Paris Agreement objectives. See Claver Gatete’s remarks here https://lnkd.in/gYXkRZFZ. More: https://lnkd.in/ga9sQWNn #industrialisation #sustainableindustrialisation #renewableenergy #SustainableDevelopment #SDGs

I am thrilled to share that I recently had the privilege of appearing on ZNBC television to discuss some incredibly important topics affecting our nation: load shedding, renewable energy alternatives, and the transformative impact of solar power on lives in Zambia. As many of us are acutely aware, load shedding has posed significant challenges for our communities and businesses. However, there is a bright path forward with renewable energy sources. During my discussion, I highlighted how solar energy, in particular, is not just a viable alternative but a game-changer for Zambia. Solar power offers a sustainable solution to our energy challenges. It harnesses the abundant sunlight we receive, providing a reliable and eco-friendly power source that reduces our dependence on non-renewable energy. This shift is not only essential for addressing load shedding but also for fostering economic growth and environmental sustainability. I also shared inspiring stories of how renewable energy projects are making a tangible difference in the lives of Zambians. From powering schools and clinics in rural areas to enabling small businesses to thrive, the renewable journey is creating opportunities and improving the quality of life across our nation. I am passionate about continuing this dialogue and supporting initiatives that promote renewable energy adoption. Together, we can build a more resilient and sustainable Zambia. Thank you to ZNBC for the opportunity to discuss these crucial issues. Let's keep the conversation going and work towards a brighter, greener future for all. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Zambia #Sustainability #LoadShedding #GreenFuture ---
