Our AFTC webinar on World Environment Day was a success and we have to thank each of our speakers and partners for their collaborative and collective efforts. And if you missed the event, here are the key highlights from our visionaries: What’s the role of quality seeds in climate-smart agriculture? Dr. Ratna Kumria shares how it all culminates into improved agronomic practices, reduction in pesticide and chemical usage and food waste. How can you reimagine sustainability today? Mr. Puran Singh Rajput enumerates the benefits of ‘Fasal Amrit’, a product that requires less water, fertiliser, offers more yields and is recyclable. Is our planet at a tipping point? Dr.Reena Singh Singh lists how we can all see the impacts of climate change - Earth is warming, rainfall patterns are changing, sea levels are rising and it is expected that the temperature will rise as high as 2.7 degree. What are the gaps that lie between climate change and cuisine? Mr. Om Routray illustrates the disconnect between the grower and the consumer and how best to mitigate it Is inflation a result of lack of supply chain optimisation? Mr. HIMANSHU PANDEY reiterates how climate change affects agricultural supply chains. Thank you everyone for joining!

Agriculture 🌾 has been at the heart of human civilisation for millennia, whether it be as a source of food, textiles, or medicine. Connected with this, however, are global demographics 🌐, which have increased the demand for food alongside emissions contributions. Climate change impacts, such as altered precipitation patterns and temperature shifts, directly affect crop yields and pose risks to food security. They show how interconnected agriculture is with climate change - especially as there is now greater pressure than ever to adapt sustainable agricultural practices 🌱 to the needs of our changing world. But this begs the question: how can we encourage upstream producers/growers to feed future generations more sustainably 🍚? More in the article in the comments ↘️

#Sogflation may not be a real word but it's a real risk and one that you need to understand if your supply chain relies upon agriculture. In this blog post, Jon Davis explains how and why rising humidity is impacting (and will continue to impact) crops and food prices... [and in related news, congratulations to the Everstream team for the recognition as a 2024 Top Food Chain Technology for the third year in a row and a big thank you to the many CPG and F&B companies that partner with Everstream to increase the resilience and agility of their supply chains. Next week, listen to my colleagues talk about our global IMPACT modeling system. This webinar is the first in the series: “IFPRI Modeling Systems: Informing Future Pathways and Priorities for Agrifood Systems,” which is co-organized by International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and CGIAR's Initiative on Foresight. The first webinar will focus on how IMPACT can be used to analyze how climate impacts on agrifood systems (and particularly crop productivity) may vary both across locations and over time in the coming decades, and how that can inform decisions about policies and investment today
What does climate change mean for the future of agriculture? Insights from the IMPACT modeling system.

Exciting conversations took place during the co-convened CGIAR side event at the Bonn Climate Change Conference. We explored how losses and damages data can be used to build and sustain resilient agrifood systems. Speaking at the session, Roula Majdalani, Senior Climate Advisor, International Center on Agriculture Research in Drylands (ICARDA), CGIAR, addressed the challenges in applying loss and damage data to agrifood systems. "There is a serious problem in reporting and attributing these events, which is why the impact of loss and damage in the agricultural sector is not fully recognized. The data we find in agrifood systems is often unavailable, inconsistent, and not standardized. Existing methodologies do not adequately account for slow-onset events, and the data does not reflect how conditions have deteriorated over time. We need timely and frequent data collections to provide real-time information on losses and damages," she explained. Stay tuned for more information on our upcoming side events. #SB60

Carbon and deforestation are two of the more confusing and polarising discussions to be had in the modern beef industry. But no matter how sticky the conversation can become, it’s important to have it. Highly credentialled independent scientist Steve Wiedemann from Integrity Ag and Environment is not afraid to debate and inform and is bringing his expertise to Beef2024 in the form of two highly anticipated forums. As he tells our host Jayne Cuddihy in the latest What's Your Beef episode, he’ll take participants through what you need to know and do about farming in a world where the focus is increasingly on carbon and the second is on the science around deforestation, including the consideration that policy must respect the science and protect agriculture. 🎧 Tune in today https://bit.ly/49fVghb 📆 Navigating greenwashing and focusing on what we must do now, Thurs 9th May, 12.00pm - 1.30pm 📆 The hot conversation around deforestation - combining science with policy, Fri 10th May, 7.45am - 9.15am Learn more about Steve's Beef2024 seminars at beefaustralia.com.au. REGISTER HERE FOR A PANEL DISCUSSION AT TILT COLLECTIVE'S (formerly PLANTWORKS) FOOD DAY DURING CLIMATE WEEK NYC!!! Current bank financing of industrial livestock production is fueling the climate and biodiversity crisis and undermining financial institutions’ commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Friends of the Earth U.S. report, “Bull in the Climate Shop”. Meanwhile, the World Bank has declared that Food Tech is Climate Tech, and that climate funding should include food systems transformation through innovation, “low carbon” pathways such as diversified proteins and healthy diets. This panel discusses global banks’ significant funding of the largest meat, dairy, and feed corporations, which is resulting in their outsized climate impacts, and the investment opportunities in front of government, philanthropy, and Wall Street that can forge a path toward more resilient, efficient, and sustainable global food systems. https://lnkd.in/eG42asJZ

The World Bank just published its latest analysis on agrifood systems and the World Farmers' Organisation is in it! At COP28 UAE we had the chance to share our own farmer-driven outcomes regarding Climate-Smart Agriculture and collected through the first Global Producers' Consultation. It is gratifying to see the World Bank picking some of this work up and employing it for their research. If you have not already checked it out you can find our paper here: (https://lnkd.in/d4PUXADP)

Today, the Changing Markets Foundation unveiled a crucial report about the Big Meat and Dairy industries! The report scrutinizes 22 global giants, revealing how they manipulate science, greenwash products, and wield political influence to maintain the status quo. Big Meat and Dairy companies mirror the tactics of tobacco and fossil fuel industries to delay, distract, and derail food system transformation. They generate 60% of global methane emissions from animal agriculture alone. Despite this impact, only 15% of these firms have set inadequate net-zero targets. The urgency is clear: A survey of 200+ climate scientists urges a peak in livestock emissions by 2025 and a 50% global cut by 2030.
