Hey there, with February being Heart Healthy Month, I wanted to share some cool info about NRF1! This little powerhouse plays a crucial role in regulating mitochondrial biogenesis and function, those are the energy producing powerhouses in our cells. NRF1 helps coordinate the expression of genes involved in mitochondrial activities, keeping things running smoothly. Now, here's the exciting part: there's direct evidence linking NRF1 to heart regeneration! Heart regeneration involves a mix of factors and mechanisms, like the activation and proliferation of cardiac progenitor cells. The field of cardiac regeneration is buzzing with ongoing research, with scientists diving into different molecular pathways and factors that could contribute to the rejuvenation of heart tissue. While NRF1's job in mitochondrial function is vital for overall cell health, it might not be the only player in the heart regeneration game. To stay in the loop, keep an eye on the latest scientific literature. This field is always evolving, and new discoveries are popping up. Delighted to share our latest paper from the NI-HEART group led by Dr Gerard Walls from Queen's University Belfast and Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.   📢 The key novel findings are: ➡ Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is a common form of radiotherapy induced ❤️ toxicity in patients with NSCLC ➡ The pulmonary veins maybe the source of AF post-radiotherapy (to our knowledge, this has not been described before) ➡ The radiotherapy dose to the pulmonary veins are associated with probability of AF in this study. Of course it can be hard to avoid the pulmonary views delivering radiotherapy to the thorax, but perhaps we had optimise other risk factors. 🔗 To paper: https://lnkd.in/eSUdNgfH

Dr. Kim, from Gangnam Severence Hospital, has made one of the most important contributions to making Radiation Oncology a multi-imaging modality specialty. He drove the effort to obtain dedicated re-imbursement for MRgRT in South Korea- the first country in Asia, and one of the first in the world. Visionaries who are helping create the environment for MRgRT to flourish play just as an important role as the visionaries who develop software and hardware of the device itself or prove its value in trials. We need every kind of visionary to evolve into a truly multi-modality IGRT specialty. So, if you don't work in South Korea, who is your Dr. Jun Won Kim?
